GALILEE SERIES FINAL TOPS THE CARD AT CAULFIELD
By Matt Moore | Friday, April 9, 2021
After a fantastic Easter Saturday meeting, Caulfield will host its second consecutive Saturday meeting. Nine races are on the card with the Listed Galilee Series Final the feature race. Track Conditions are a Good 4 and the rail is out 10m the entire circuit.
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
RACE 1:
No 2 Cheerful Legend No 4 Hunnam No 3 He’s Exceptional No 6 Lucky Decision
The John Sadler colt, Cheerful Legend, was impressive when winning his maiden at The Valley two starts back then backed it up with a good run in the Group 2 VRC Sires at Flemington.
RACE 2:
No 1 Dollar For Dollar No 5 Fabric No 3 Missile Mantra No 6 Simply Optimistic
Dollar For Dollar resumed running third in the Abell Stakes four weeks ago. Look at his form last campaign and it’s littered with class. He finished that campaign running in The Everest and finished second the two runs prior to that in the Group 2 Gilgai and the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
RACE 3:
No 1 Superium No 2 Li’L Kontra No 12 The Last Napoleon No 7 Moi Chioux
Superium resumes here for his new stable in The Hawkes team. He comes down from Sydney with two wins under his belt when 1st up and is proven over the distance with three wins from six. Jye McNeil to take to ride from Gate 5 and should get a nice run in the race.
RACE 4:
No 9 Garvoc No 4 Switched No 3 Lesage No 6 Cordilla
Garvoc looks one of the form runners in this race with two seconds in her last two starts. The first of those was at Sandown in a BM64 then she was solid behind Incredulous Dream at Mornington. She carried 60kgs that run and drops to 54kg here. Four wins from six at the 1100m.
RACE 5 HYLANDS RACE COLOURS HANDICAP:
No 6 Mozzie Monster No 1 Annavisto No 10 Elidi No 2 South Parade
Mozzie Monster was terrific in her last start in the Bendigo Guineas, finishing second behind Annavisto. Getting to the back of the field and turning for home the widest, she made plenty of ground of the winner. She drew Gate 10 on the occasion and draws Gate 6. She meets Annavisto 2kgs better at the weights this time around.
RACE 6 GALILEE SERIES FINAL:
No 1 Liqueuro No 6 Through Irish Eyes No 2 Reuber No 8 Olivia’s Dream
Liqueuro has been working well through the grades winning his maiden at Mornington, then a BM70 at Flemington. He then went to a BM64 at Sandown where he ran fourth but impressed with a return to the winners circle in the St Leger Trial at Bendigo over 2200m. This looks easier.
RACE 7 MRC CHAIRMAN’S CLUB HANDICAP:
No 7 Yonkers No 8 Mohican Heights No 1 Lord Belvedere No 5 South Pacific
In a tricky race, I’m going with the Chris Waller trained Yonkers. A last start runner in the Mornington Cup (finishing fourth) but beat home Realm Of Flowers in a BM88 at Randwick four weeks earlier. Thomas Stockdale sticks with a 3kg claim which will bring his mount down to 51kg from Gate 3.
RACE 8:
No 8 Wyclif No 2 Grand Promenade No 5 Independent Road No 7 Vegas Knight
Wycliff has had two runs this campaign both in BM78 grade at Sandown over 1400 and Mornington last start over a mile. Both runs resulted in 5th with 58kgs. He drops to 54.5kgs here and has won 3rd up prior.
RACE 9:
No 5 Platoon No 7 Plein Ciel No 2 Brinham Rocks No 1 Al Galayel
Platoon was super in his last start which was in the Golden Mile at Bendigo. He hit the line well and was only beaten by a good one in Ironclad by less than 2 lengths. This race looks a lot easier. QUADDIE NUMBERS
Race 6: 1 2 5 6 8 Race 7: 1 3 5 7 8 Race 8: 2 5 7 8 Race 9: 1 2 5 7
