CAULFIELD 9 Races Good 4 Track Rail True
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
RACE 1 OVER 2000M
No 2 Mahamedeis No 4 Fanciful Toff No 3 Declares War No 1 Moonlight Maid The Nick Ryan gelding ran a good race last start in the Group 3 Easter Cup. Luke Currie sticks and he looks one of the best on the program.
RACE 2 OVER 1400M
No 8 Spring Choice No 13 South Parade No 11 Vongole No 16 Witchful Thinking Spring Choice ran 2nd in a BM84 last start to Shandy and drops to a BM78 here. He finished off in super form 2 runs back winning the Port Adelaide Guineas 12 months ago. Willie Pike takes the ride in what looks a nice race for him.
RACE 3 OVER THE MILE
No 3 Beau Rossa No 12 Miss Inbetween No 1 Air Defence No 13 Rippa Rita Beau Rossa is airbourne winning 2 from 2 this campaign. His last run was at the 1300m where he destroyed the field by 7 lengths and the step up to a mile here looks the logical move.
RACE 4 THE VOBIS MILE
No 1 Mr Quickie No 6 Galaxy Raider No 8 Shandy No 2 So Si Bon This looks like the perfect race for the Phillip Stokes runner who was a last start winner in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap. He meets Iconoclasm and Galaxy Raider from that race here again and is better suited at the weights.
RACE 5 VOBIS DASH OVER 1100M
No 2 La Mexicana No 5 Bella Nipotina No 10 Vowmaster No 7 Capriccio La Mexicana was in terrific form in Melbourne before heading up to Sydney for the Galaxy. That race didn’t go to plan but she’s back in Melbourne and this looks perfect for her. Jamie Kah jumps back on her.
RACE 6 THE SHOWDOWN 1200M
No 10 Arcaded No 1 Finance Tycoon No 2 Starry Legend No 11 Sliders Arcaded is a dual acceptor for here and Sydney. She has a massive profile. Finance Tycoon has been stellar this campaign with a win during the Magic Millions Carnival in January and a fourth place in the Blue Diamond. If Arcaded doesn’t run, he goes on top.
RACE 7 BEL ESPIRIT STAKES 1100M
No 4 Prophet’s Thumb No 5 Sword Of Mercy No 10 Alfa Oro No 1 Ancestry Prophet’s Thumb comes into this race off the back of 2 Group 1 races. She’s also back at her favourite track where she tends to race best. With 2 wins and 3 places from 6 starts at track and distance and Jamie Kah aboard, she represents great value.
RACE 8 VOBIS GOLD SPRINT 1200M
No 6 Felicia No 3 How Wowmantic No 11 Paul’s Regret No 1 Laverrod This is the toughest race to dissect but I’m with Felicia who resumes. The first up record is good as is her record at the track and distance. Will Price takes the ride. She had a brilliant last campaign taking out the How Now at Group 3 level and placed in 3 of her 4 other runs.
RACE 9 VOBIS GOLD DISTAFF 1400M
No 3 Great Duchess No 14 Good And Proper No 10 Lunakorn No 7 Ruby Skye The Greg Eurell Mare resumes here with Jamie Mott carrying 59kg. Her form last prep is around Probabeel and Fabergino. She hasn’t missed the money in 3 goes at the track and trip and does has a good first up record. ____________________________________________________________________
