ROTHFIRE'S STEADY PROGRESS CONTINUES
By Graham Potter | Monday, May 24, 2021
The brilliant Rothfire, who has a Group 1 JJ Atkins victory and two Group 2 successes in the Champagne Classic and the Run to the Rose included in his impressive race record of seven wins from nine starts, had his first gallop last Saturday since completing a long period of rehabilitation.
Rothfire, who was one of the leading contenders for the 2020 The Everest, last ran in the Golden Rose on September 26, 2020 … a race in which suffered a serious injury which looked to be possibly career threatening at the time.
“I was so devastaed with what happened to Rothfire,” said trainer Robert Heathcote, ‘but, after Saturday’s gallop, it is fair to say that my confidence levels in Rothfire making a return are growing daily. He pulled up fantastic.
“He’ll do a little bit of faster work this week and then he will have a couple of weeks back in the paddock and we will take it from there.”
Welcome news indeed!
