MIDNIGHT MUSTANG GETS UP CLOSE TO THE LINE
By Graham Potter | Saturday, May 16, 2009
The Tony Noonan trained Midnight Mustang came home under an inch perfect ride from Steven King, getting up late to head the free-running Gran Sasso, who had looked a possible winner when he kicked on strongly inside the last 150m in the Listed Henry Bucks Straight Six at Flemington.
The gelding was always up with the speed with Gran Sasso and Augusta Proud. The latter started to feel the pinch approaching the 200m mark and fell out of contention, leaving Grand Sasso and Midnight Mustang to fight out an enthralling finish.
This was Midnight Mustang’s seventh win from seventeen starts. He has now won three out of six over 1200m.
The win gave Tony Noonan more reason to smile. Noonan was in Brisbane where star filly Ortensia demolished her opposition in the Listed Glenlogan Park Stakes.
