KILCOY RACES – THURSDAY JULY 1, 2021
A massive 8 race program midweek – unfortunately due to COVID restrictions it will be without patrons. The track rated “SOFT” and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1
Daasshur (1) went around here at the last meeting on Sunday 20 June – looked a winner all the way down the straight and was collared in the final stride over 1200 metres. I think the form from that race will stand up here. Zac Sprie takes the ride today and he rode his first winner at that meeting – maybe he can start the day off with another winner at Kilcoy.
Selections:
1 – Daasshur 11 – Dream Entity 8 – In’hinchable 2 – Gogol
Race 2
Puckish (1) won here last start over 1900 metres – was a strong staying performance on that occasion. Cannot see why the Michael Nolan trained runner cannot post another win with Jimmy Orman to ride.
Selections:
1 – Puckish 5 – Samhain 6 – Windupgirl 7 – Noble Artist
Race 3
Jason Edwards always seems to have luck at Kilcoy. He partners with Jimmy Orman and Hard Yaga (1). The recent trial win would suggest he is primed for a first up killing.
Miss Barty (5) looks the obvious danger from the powerful Kelly Schweida stable to be ridden by Alex Patis.
Selections:
1 – Hard Yaga 5 – Miss Barty 2 – Belle’s Pluck 7 – Hamilton Hill
Race 4
Not keen on the race
Selections:
8 – Fleckerl 1 – Canister 4 – Sun N Surf 3 – Marcheky Boy
Race 5
First leg of the Quaddie.
I like the Paul Butterworth trained Annabeth (3) after a strong effort last time out at the Sunshine Coast over the mile. Madeleine Wishart will ride here.
Respect for the Greg Cornish trained Royalspector (4) who won last start. Jasmine Cornish rides and her claim could prove vital late in the race.
Chris Anderson brings one here with limited form – Kaaydeh (1). Maybe look for any movement in the markets – could be one that could beat the more favoured runners. Michael “Muppy” Hellyer will ride.
Selections:
3 – Annabeth 4 – Royalspector 1 – Kaaydeh 5 – Champagne Spirit
Race 6
A fair few early scratchings here. First leg of the Quaddie.
Butterworth and Wishart combine again here with Northern Dragon (5) – can they get a race to race double? This runner won here at the track and distance back in May – maybe she can get back to the winner’s stalls.
Bronzed Venom (2) is a Sheila Laxon & Jon Symons trained runner to be ridden by Michael Hellyer. It was a good effort last start at Ipswich over 1350 metres.
Selections:
5 – Northern Dragon 2 – Bronzed Venom 6 – Rangas Rule 9 – Spurious
Race 7
First leg of the treble.
Shinshinto (7) is second up here for trainer David Murphy. Despite drawing wide, has won previously second up. Corey Bayliss is in the saddle.
Sir Piccolo (5) has won his past two starts for Ken Jones – and has been ridden to both victories by Nathan Fazackerley. This runner does get back in running which may not help his chances but if they are running on and winning, he does rate well.
Test Of War (3) is trained by Les Clarke and does race on the speed. Sky Bogenhuber rides – is a genuine chance.
Selections:
2 – Shinshinto 5 – Sir Piccolo 3 – Test Of War 8 – Wearetenfortyeight Rough chance – (10) Des Singer
Race 8
The last race.
Hidden Secret (5) – won here last start in the last race over 1200 metres. She drops back in distance, however, she normally flies the gates and sets up a solid speed. Trained by Alan Robinson, she will be ridden by the cheeky Lani Fancourt. Shame that due to the CV19 restrictions that WINNO will not be on track to see if she pokes her tongue out at me like she did last time!
The Bumblebee (9) was unlucky last time out here. Trained by Stephanie Sixtus, will be ridden by Nathan Thomas again. Was taken on and pestered throughout the race here over 1050 metres and still finished off strongly to run a gallant second.
Reachforthestars (6) is trained by Caroline Allardyce – the horse is owned by her and Heidi Whalley. Nothing like keeping it in the family with Jimmy Orman to ride.
Clickety Clicks (13) is a Greg Cornish runner who was sent out favourite last time here. Was only second up that start and finished the race off very strong – with the claim for Jasmine Cornish he gets in well. I think that he will strip much fitter for that effort and must be respected.
Jett Austin (2) is trained by Billy Healey Racing – I can hear him now saying – “your kidding WINNO – not even in your top four selections” – oh well – I will be happy to be wrong!
Selections:
5 – Hidden Secret 9 – The Bumblebee 6 – Reachforthestars 13 – Clickety Clicks Rough chance – (2) Jett Austin ____________________________________________________________________ Jockey’s Challenge
Tough field this week – Jimmy Orman, Jasmine Cornish and Madeleine Wishart. Maybe will come down to the last race with Jimmy Orman claiming a win – keep your eye on apprentice Jasmine Cornish. She could be a nice price.
