WINNO'S WINNERS: SUNSHINE COAST, JULY 11, 2021

This weekend we up the highway to the Sunshine Coast where the track is rated “HEAVY” and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. This is the meeting that was rescheduled after the rain struck last weekend.
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1
The Chris Waller trained I Could Do Better (6) thrives on wet tracks - looks well placed here. Jim Byrne will ride.
So Dapper (7), trained here by John Symons & Sheila Laxon, could prove the one to upset them – Michael Hellyer loves this track and will be sure to get the best out of this gelding.

Race 2
Not a race I am keen on.
I like Mishani Miss (2) from the Les Ross Racing team. Four wins from 5 starts here and a win on a heavy track – that will do me. Plus, the stable apprentice Sheriden Tomlinson rides her here and his three-kilogram claim will be a massive advantage. Big odds as well at $14. Maybe Sheriden can get a win on the board and resolve the losing streak he has had recently following the hopeless QLD Maroons team! (Did I mention that NSW has won the series already!).
Goldsborough (1) is trained here and loves the track – just a concern with the huge weight.

Race 3
The two-year-old runners go around here.
Berdini’s Girl (8) has no form on a heavy track but has coped well previously on soft surfaces. Trained by Chris Munce and to be ridden by Justin Huxtable, she may be the one to get the run of the race and finish off strongly.
A big watch on Habib (5) from the Mark Currie yards. They have always had an opinion of this gelding. Resumes from a spell after a nice trial recently. Brad Stewart aboard – could be the testing material for this race. $21 is over the odds for mine.

Race 4
Tough race this one – over 1000 metres. A number of these are resuming on a heavy track.
I think that Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted runner Totally Charmed (6) holds the key to the race. The stable originally had three runners in the race but Jami Girl and Gee Tee Tee have been scratched leaving Totally Charmed as their sole representative with Stephanie Thornton to ride.

Race 5 THE CALOUNDRA CUP (Listed)
This is an open race.
The Joe Pride trained Stockman (3) won the McKell Cup at Rosehill last start on a heavy track. Has superb form on this type of going and looks well placed. Ryan Maloney to ride for the stable.
Keep your eye on the Kelly Schweida trained Cellarmaid (6) who gets through heavy going quite well. Will be ridden by Ben Thompson and is down on the weights – could upset the favourite.
Flash Aah is trained by Mitchell Fry – did run a great third in the recent Ipswich Cup and does like a wet track – keep safe.

Race 6
This race over 1200 metres is the first leg of the Quaddie.
No interest at all in the race.
Derulo (12) for Kacy Fogden comes off a nice win last time out at the Gold Coast – does handle a wet track and will be ridden by Mark Du Plessis.
L’Cosmo (9) won here on her home track last time out. Trained by David Vandyke and with Ryan Maloney to ride again. These two are a lethal combination at this track – much respect for this runner.
I give a rough chance to Westlink (6) – does love the heavy surfaces and will be good odds.
The aptly named Jetski (10) may glide across the wet surface and should be not overlooked.

Race 7 WINX GUINEAS (Group 3)
First leg of the Treble this weekend. A tough assignment.
Dzsenifer (11), trained here by Gary Duncan and with Jim Byrne to ride, gets the nod from me. Second up – loves the track and should handle the wet conditions.
Our Playboy (2) has won on a heavy track. Will be ridden this weekend by Robbie Fradd and I think you can safely overlook the run last start at Ipswich – had no luck. Back to a big open track, he will be thundering home late out wide and probably will claim a feature race and repay trainers Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) who have been looking for some black type for this Sebring gelding.
Rogue Rocker (8) is the form horse here with three solid wins for John Smerdon since resuming racing. Has been sent our favourite in each of them races and won easily. This is a step up in grade but will not be worried by the wet track – Brad Stewart will ride.
Chris Munce trains the progressive Palaisipan (14). What can you say, four starts for four wins – she just keeps turning up and shaming the opposition. Not sure how she will handle the heavy surface but, if she gets through the going, she could put this lot to the sword again – a great ride feature race for Justin Huxtable.

Race 8 GLASSHOUSE HANDICAP (Listed)
This is an open affair.
I am staying with the Gollan Racing trained Snitch (10) who won the Eye Liner last time out. Has won here at the track and I only have one concern – the heavy track. If he can get through the heavy conditions, he looks to be very competitive again here this weekend – Ben Thompson stays aboard.
Splendoronthegrass (16) is trained here by David Vandyke – Stephanie Thornton retains the ride. This mare has drawn terrible in barrier 16. Maybe she can get in and get some cover. She thrives at this track and loves a heavy surface – down on the minimum she represents a solid each way chance at $26.
Charleise (6) jumped out of the ground late last start at Eagle Farm to win easily over 1500 metres for the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace yards. Jim Byrne rides and will need some luck from barrier 17. She likes wet tracks and will be well suited with the speed on in this race.
Niccanova (1) was unlucky in the Group 1 Stradbroke where he got caught in the worst section of the track. Has won here and does like heavy tracks. Despite the huge weight he is a class above these – just needs some luck and Jimmy Orman knows him well.
I must mention one here at $51 – I mean I like that number “50” – how does “50” sit with you Luke Tarrant, who will ride Barefoot (16) for the Tony & Maddy Sears training combination. 50 is a great number if you are a NSW winner like me – sorry Luke! Back to my reasoning. This runner ran a magnificent race last time out at Ipswich in the Gai Waterhouse and was finishing strongly over the 1200 metres. He goes best at the mile for mine – this track being heavy and the fact that he will be finishing the race of strongly makes me think he is a big knockout chance at huge odds. Luke – I think you can win your home track feature race!

Race 9
Not a great way to finish the day.
Maybe the Scott Morrisey trained Shinjin (8) can have a change of fortune. Did run a solid second to East Asia (12) last time out at Doomben. Meets him better at the weights for that defeat. Madeleine Wishart to ride – her claim will be beneficial, and he has won four times on heavy tracks.

The field will be open this weekend with several jockeys having genuine chances. Ben Thompson, Jim Byrne and Brad Stewart all look like they each have some nice rides. Something on Jim Byrne this weekend for mine.
