WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, JULY 17, 2021

By Darren Winningham | Friday, July 16, 2021

EAGLE FARM RACES – SATURDAY 17 JULY 2021

Eagle farm this weekend where the track is rated “GOOD”and the rail is out 1 metre for the entire circuit.

This week I would like to indulge and dedicate my tips and blog to my wonderful best friend Buster. You probably know he was my beagle – he passed earlier in the week on Tuesday. I would like to thank all those in the racing industry and others who have reached out by calling, messaging, or texting me. I truly appreciate your kind words and thoughts.

You all know he was my biggest and best distraction away from the track. I loved him dearly and he meant the world to me. RIP Baby Buster – I will miss you mate!

Back to the racing - I think I will go for horses racing handy this week – let us hope that I am right.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

A tiny field here to start the day.

Allusionist (4) is trained by Richard & Mitchell Freedman. Was a solid run at Gosford last time out on a heavy track. Back on a firm surface I would expect a bold showing. Taylor Marshall will ride this gelding – Taylor was a big winner on Sunday in the Glasshouse aboard King Of Hastings.

Dream Game (6) is trained by Neville Stewart and Brad Stewart will ride. Was sent out favourite at Ipswich and was solid. I think that he would have benefitted from that run and will go well here.

The Robert Heathcote pair of Release The Beans (3) and Cryenotears (5) will also be hard to hold out.

Selections:

4 – Allusionist
6 – Dream Game
3 – Release The Beans
5 – Cryenotears

Race 2

The first leg of the Early Quaddie is over 1000 metres.

Matthew Hoysted & Steven O’Dea train Shooting For Gold (2) who beat Genzai The Wolf (3) here over the same distance last time. Baylee Nothdurft will ride again – looks an obvious 1-2 again here for mine.

Je Suis Belle (6) could be the upset factor. Trained by Mark Currie – loves this distance – races well fresh and was a brilliant winner at Toowoomba recently in a trial – Bobby El-Issa will ride.

Selections:

2 – Shooting For Gold
3 – Genzai The Wolf
6 – Je Suis Belle
5 – Iced

Race 3

I like the barrier trial for Schweida As (10) last week – that was on the back of a solid first up effort where he ran third. I think that this Kelly Schweida Racing runner will be solid here this weekend with Jim Byrne to ride.

Cinderella (11) is looking for a fairy tale debut in QLD for the Richard & Michael Freedman stables. She has had two recent trials in Sydney on wet tracks that were not all that flattering. I think she will be better suited on a nice hard track – Taylor Marshall will ride her.

Aviemore (8) is trained by Barry Lockwood and will be ridden by Kyle Wilson Taylor. She is resuming here after a run over the Magic Millions Carnival back in January. Prior to that she had won consecutive starts. Kyle’s claim will come in handy and enhances her chances here – plus there has been very good support for this runner since the markets have opened firming from $6 to $4.

Keep your eye on Mary Valley (12) as well, who has been smashed in the markets firming from $12 into $4.60 – trained by Steele Ryan and will be ridden by Kate Cowan. She us second up here after a solid effort at Kilcoy first up.

Selections:

10 – Schweid As
11 – Cinderella
8 – Aviemore
12 – Mary Valley
Rough chance - (6) Ready Babe

Race 4

Open race over 1200 metres - an even field here.

I like Boomsara (3) trained by Chris Munce. Nothing wrong with his effort in the Eye Liner at Ipswich. Did run a great race when second to Tumbler Ridge here in the Gold Jewel. Justin Huxtable will ride for his master.

EF Troop (6) resumes here for Gollan Racing – Kyle Wilson-Taylor (KWT) to ride. Comes off a recent barrier trial win after an okay effort first up. The freshen up may have assisted him – blinkers go on and a 3-kilogram weight relief for KWT should assist.

Peppi La Few (7) is trained by Edmonds Racing. Is second up here with Jim Byrne to ride. Could show some improvement.

Desleigh Foster trains Red Chase (2) – blinkers go on and does go well here at Eagle Farm.

Selections:

3 – Boomsara
6 – Ef Troop
7 – Peppi La Few
2 – Red Chase

Race 5

This would have to be the toughest race of the day. It is over 1800 metres. Who knows what to do here?

I think the Gollan Racing pair hold the key to the race – Victoria Park (6) and Lethal Warning (7). Both come off recent maiden wins here at midweek race meetings.

Victoria Park (6) won here with Ryan Maloney over the 1800 metres and they combine again here. Looks well placed and will race handy in the running.

Lethal Warning (7) won over 1400 metres and looked like she will be better over some distance. She is second up here, but the way she ran in her debut run she should have no trouble in running out this distance. Jake Bayliss remains aboard.

Without Thinking (1) comes back in grade after a great effort in the Gunsynd recently when beaten by Ayrton. The gelding is trained by John Symons and Sheila Laxon and will be ridden by Michael Hellyer – could upset the more favoured runners. He was scratched from the Winx Guineas at the starting gates after being kicked by another runner last Saturday so will looking to prove a point here.

Selections:

7 – Lethal Warning
6 – Victoria Park
1 – Without Thinking
3 – Titled Tycoon

Race 6

First leg of the Quaddie.

Kelly Schweida and Jimmy Orman combine here with London Banker (5) who is attempting to steal the money here. This runner is an ex- New Zealand horse now with the stable and is third up here in Australia. He did work home well last start over the mile, and I expect a bold showing this weekend.

Fort Wayne (3) is on the quick back up after racing last weekend at the Sunshine Coast - trained by Stuart Kendrick and Baylee Nothdurft will ride. The 1800 metres will be seeing him work home nicely.

Conquedea (1) looked like he needed the run when he stepped out last Saturday at Doomben. Maybe the longer distance will see him go better here this weekend. Kyle Wilson-Taylor gets 3 kilograms off as well.

Selections:

5 – London Banker
3 – Fort Wayne
1 – Cinquedea
6 – So Dapper

Race 7

First leg of the treble.

Tough race this one. There is a fair few of these runners that struggle to win – so play carefully.

Dreamreacher (2) is third up for the Gillian Heinrich stables with Jimmy Orman to ride. Gets in quite well at the Class 3 grade of the race and should be suited with the speed drawn in the race – should get a nice trail probably three pairs back in the running.

Word For Word (10) is trained by Chris Waller and will be ridden by Luke Dittman. The mare has had a 3 month freshen up and resumes here. No recent barrier trial form, however, she must have been working well as she has been well supported in the markets.

She has only had 3 wins in 29 starts but always seems to fill a place with 13 placings. She looks well placed to post her fourth career start.

Avowal (1) is a Lindsay Hatch runner – KWT will ride and could get a nice run in transit and should not be overlooked.

Let’s not overlook the Steve Tregea trained Champagne Aunty (7) – his stable has had a great run of success recently. This runner resumes for him with Larry Cassidy to ride. Massive odds at $18 and did win a recent trial on her home track in Toowoomba – could run well fresh.

Selections:

10 – Word For Word
2 – Dreamreacher
1 – Avowal
3 – Mr Wong
Rough chance – (7) Champagne Aunty

Race 8

A race over 1200 metres.

Triple Ace (1) is trained by Kris Lees Racing and will be ridden by Andrew Mallyon. Will probably sit in behind the likely leader Derulo (2) and should be too strong late. This runner is second up for the stable after a good effort first up at Rosehill on a soft track. Has a great second up record with a win and a second from two starts – keep safe.

Derulo (2) won last Sunday at Sunshine Coast and is on the quick back up for Kacy Fogden. Mark Du Plessis retains the ride for the stable. He does go up in weight quite sharply – but an effort like that one last weekend should see him very competitive this weekend again.

Matthew Dunn Racing trains Shanjomi (7) who won first up at Doomben a month ago. Has had a little freshen up. This filly is only lightly raced with four career starts and three wins. I really think that filly could feature in the finish. She is around the $9 mark in the betting and could be a strong contender.

Selections:

1 – Triple Ace
2 – Derulo
7 – Shanjomi
5 – Eloquently

Race 9

A very hard race to finish off the day.

Snow Valley (13) is trained by Steel Ryan and Ryan Maloney will ride her this weekend. She is third up and had a recent trial on a heavy track, where she was just sent around as she is not a huge fan of wet tracks. I think the fact that she drops in grade could make her the one to beat here.

Sea Raider (8) seems to thrive at Eagle Farm and is huge odds at $14 for John Gilmore. He has drawn perfectly in barrier 3 to just take up a forward position and keep these other runners off the bit. Brad Stewart will ride for the stable.

Luna Mia (16) is trained by Paul Messara and Bobby El-Issa will ride. She has drawn terrible in barrier 15 again this weekend. She does get back in her racingso if they are leading and winning, she may struggle. However, if they are making ground, she looks ideally placed in this race. She is third up here this weekend and is down in grade – do not overlook this runner.

There has been a steady amount of support for Spending My Time (17) since the markets have opened. I really cannot make a case for this runner to be ridden by Robbie Fradd for the Paul Nolan (Jnr) yards – but you must respect the money that has come for him.

Look out for Fisticuffs (4) who may throw a knockout blow for the Edmonds Racing team. He is a runner that, if everything goes his way in a race, can cause an upset. Justin Huxtable rides him. He is second up and usually does race well fresh.

Selections:

13 – Snow Valley
8 – Sea Raider
16 – Luna Mia
4 – Fisticuffs
Rough chance – (17) Spending My Time

Tough field this weekend with Jimmy Orman, Ryan Maloney, and Kyle Wilson Taylor favoured. Maybe stay local and go for Jimmy Orman – consistent book or rides – could get lucky.

WINNO V FLEMO

FLEMO got WINNO twice last weekend in a close contest in our tipping competition on both days – well done mate! He then managed the trifecta with QLD scoring a lucky win against NSW on Wednesday night. I thought NSW were a massive chance for posting the whitewash – but we were a little unlucky in the running. One thing is for sure NSW holds the shield in 2021!

Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings!
