CLAYON DOUGLAS GETS SUPPORT FROM QTI RACING

By Graham Potter | Monday, July 19, 2021

The OTI Racing and Bloodstock operation has expanded its trainer base in recent times and the latest to benefit from their expansion is the young Mornington based trainer Clayton Douglas, who now has two OTI horses in his care.

The four-year-old French import Harmysian, who arrived in Australia earlier this month, has joined the Douglas stable along with a two-year-old gelding that OTI acquired out of New Zealand.

The support, coming from as large an organisation as OTI, is a major boost for Douglas, who is still in his first twelve months as a trainer.

Douglas was happy to point out that Harmysian has been relatively quick to adapt to Australian conditions and that, as he was more forward at this stage than expected, his proposed racing schedule might be brought forward possibly to a race on Melbourne Cup day.

The initial target set for the son of Lope De Vega was the Andrew Ramsden Stakes in May next year and, while that is likely to will remain firmly on the radar, Douglas, talking to Racing.com, stated, “He has settled in, he’s eating and doing well and seems in really good order … there’s no reason to wait at this stage until next year to run him.”

Harmysian, who was a last start winner at Chantilly in May, is a three-time winner from twelve starts and he also has six minor placings to his credit.
