WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, JULY 31, 2021

By Darren Winningham | Friday, July 30, 2021

EAGLE FARM RACES – SATURDAY 31 JULY 2021

Eagle farm this weekend. The track is rated “GOOD” and the rail is out 3 metres for the entire circuit.

I must make special mention of the diabolical situation in NSW – particularly in Sydney and the surrounding suburbs. This treacherous virus COVID has taken hold and is causing chaos. My thoughts and prayers are with you all currently as are others across Australia – stay home – follow the medical advice and keep safe!

Race 1

Steve Tregea has had a wonderful run of late. He has Champagne Aunty (13) engaged here with Larry Cassidy to ride. She was heavily backed first up here over 1400 metres and steps up to the mile. Will race handy on the speed and looks hard to beat.

Baanone (4) is trained by Sears Racing and Jim Byrne will ride for the stable. Was first up over 1400 metres at the Sunshine Coast and has won over the mile and second up. There has been some solid support for this runner since the markets have opened.

Whispered (9) ran home well last time out at Doomben. Is down in weight and if there is some speed in the race this Gillian Heinrich runner will be storming home late – look for those distinctive black and pink silks on Jimmy Orman.

Selections:

13 – Champagne Aunty
4 – Baanone
9 – Whispered
12 – Predictable Miss

Race 2

The first leg of the Early Quaddie is over 2200 metres.

Unamerican (6) is trained by Richard and Michael Freedman and has been sent north to find a firm track after two average efforts on heavy tracks in Sydney. Jim Byrne will ride this gelding whose best efforts have been on top of the ground – look for an improved effort here this weekend.

Puckish (7) won two in a row a Kilcoy before getting defeated on his home track at Toowoomba last time out over 2000 metres. I think that the extra distance will suit the Michael Nolan trained runner who will be ridden by Luke Tarrant.

Two Smokin Barrels (4) is on the quick back up after a great win last weekend at Doomben for Ben Ahrens. Ronnie Stewart will ride again here. I just am worried that he may not like this surface, however, the way he finished off the race last weekend would suggest he rates well here on form.

Selections:

6 – Uuamerican
7 – Puckish
4 – Two Smokin Barrels
1 – London Banker
Rough chance – (3) Warp Speed

Race 3

A large field over 1400 metres.

Lashoni (11) is trained by Tony Gollan and will be ridden by Ryan Maloney - was scratched from race 7 to run in this race. Has a tremendous record at the track and distance and looks well placed by the 2020/21 premier QLD trainer.

Luna Mia (8) gets back in her races and ran a great race a fortnight ago over 1200 metres. This weekend with the step up in distance to 1400 metres with Bobby El-Issa to ride again she will be flying home late.

Mahussey (12) is a Troy Pascoe Racing runner who comes off a win three weeks ago at Doomben. This is her first look at the Eagle Farm track and maybe she can take the step up in grade from midweek to Saturday company.

Selections:

11 – Lashoni
8 – Luna Mia
12 – Mahussey
3 – Rock Amore

Race 4

The last two-year-old race of the current season – before they all turn 3 on Sunday, the Horses Birthday!

Let me start with the horse that has been smashed in the betting since the markets opened – Finsceal (7) from the Tom Button yards who has been backed from $21 to $11. Luke Tarrant will ride. This runner was unwanted in the betting when he won on debut at the Sunshine Coast starting at $18 in a small field and scoring well.

Enterprise Pomme (13) is trained by Mick Lakey and will be ridden by Michael Cahill. This filly won at Doomben three weeks ago on debut and ran some great sectionals – I am hoping that the Eagle Farm track will be no drama and she will go on with that winning effort.

Robert Heathcote trains Startantes (6) who resumes here and has recently won a strong trial. Taylor Marshall has ridden the filly in all four career starts and he will ride her again. She will probably only be three pairs back at worst in the running and she has won here.

Alpine Edge (1) is trained by Edmonds Racing and was unlucky early in the year in the Magic Millions when running an amazing second. The huge weight is the issue for me. Jaden Lloyd will claim his 3 kilograms, however, he has drawn barrier 12 and does get back in the field. If they are leading and winning, I just cannot see him winning the race. He is a class runner – maybe I will be left with egg on my face after the race.

Selections:

13 – Enterprise Pomme
6 – Startantes
1 – Alpine Edge
4 – Jumbo Goal
Rough chances – (5) Princess Bojack & Finsceal (7)

Race 5

This would have to be the toughest race of the day. Who knows what to do here?

I think that Safework (2) will appreciate the extra distance this weekend – has always shown a liking for this. No wins at the track is of some concern.

Way Beyond (3) is trained by Stuart Kendrick and has the services of Jaden Lloyd – his 3-kilogram claim gets this runner in well at the weights. Second up this weekend at a distance that looks ideal. He probably has the best finish late – so if they are making ground – I expect him to be involved at the business end of proceedings.

Gdansk (4) and Hey Big Spenda (10) are both trained on the Gold Coast by Edmonds Racing. Both have chances in an open field.

Selections:

2 – Safework
3 – Way Beyond
4 – Gdansk
10 – Hey Big Spenda

Race 6

First leg of the Quaddie.

Titled Tycoon (14) is a Richard and Michael Freedman trained runner who had his first look at the Eagle Farm track a fortnight ago and just seemed to peak on his run late after leading them up. I expect that he would have derived some benefit from that run and will be right in this race with Andrew Mallyon to ride.

Relucent (11) is a Chris Waller Racing runner who has been campaigning in Victoria. He has been up a while this preparation and has been racing well at these distances. He doesn’t have an impressive winning strike rate with two wins from 28 starts – maybe with the change of scenery and some warm winter sun on his back he can show up against this lot.

Mob Buster (8) is trained by Melissa Taylor (I must say she has a better smile than Dale Smith). This gelding was a solid winner here over 1400 metres at a midweek meeting last time out with Jimmy Orman in the saddle. That came after a good effort in the Gunsynd over a mile behind Ayrton. I think he will run out a strong 1800 metres. After all he has a great name “Buster” – good luck to this team I will be cheering him home!

Selections:

14 – Titled Tycoon
11 – Relucent
8 – Mob Buster
6 – Tavis Town

Race 7

First leg of the treble.

Mark Currie has Je Suis Belle (10) going around with Madeleine Wishart claiming three kilograms. She raced well last time out leading up the field and only to be run down the impressive Shooting For Gold. That runner is not around this weekend. I think considering that effort and second up, where she has a wonderful strike rate, she is an excellent gamble at $9 each way.

Triple Ace (7), from Kris Lees Racing, was a heavily backed favourite last time out here over 1200 metres when beaten in the shadows of the post. There has been good support for this runner again and he is the early favourite for the race – Andrew Mallyon rides again this weekend.

Vinco (8) and Royal Hale (1) are both Tony Gollan runners. VInco (8) is the best of his pair in my opinion. He is resuming after a solid recent trial and does race well fresh and on this track – Jim Byrne will ride him here.

Selections:

10 – Je Suis Belle
7 – Triple Ace
8 – Vinco
1 – Royal Hale

Race 8

A race over 1400 metres.

Scallopini (2) is trained by Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted. This runner is third up here this weekend. Some interesting facts – 7 starts third up for 3 wins and 3 seconds – has Jaden Lloyd riding with 3-kilogram claim so he is ideally weighted in my opinion. He turned in a good effort in the Glasshouse at the Sunshine Coast last time out when running sixth beaten just 2.5 lengths. That race has since proved a string form race. Good odds here at $9 each way all day for me!

Sea Raider (12) just loves this track. Led them up last time out here with Brad Stewart riding and went to the line strong to get the chocolates. He will race on the pace – so if they are leading and winning look for this runner to be difficult to get past. Stephanie Thornton rides him this weekend – she rode him to victory at his previous win here back in February.

Matowi (6) resumed here last time out and was flashing home late and just missed when Boomsara (3) held him off. The extra 200 metres of this race and the 1.5-kilogram weight difference this weekend would suggest he will be very hard to hold out this time. Ronnie Stewart takes the ride as it appears Luke Dittman is getting some sun and playing some golf on a holiday up in far north QLD.

Profit (7) is trained by Chris Anderson – not sure what to make of his recent efforts. But, down in weights, back to a track and distance he likes with some speed in the race and Larry Cassidy to ride – probably means he could return to his best form. I am just concerned if the track ends up favouring on speed runners.

Selections:

2 – Scallopini
12 – Sea Raider
6 – Matowi
7 – Profit

Race 9

The last race of the day is over 1200.

Look I have the healthiest respect for the Steve Tregea runner Eloquently (1) who has posted five consecutive wins and looks to be one right out of the box. She steps up 1200 metres this weekend and has the top weight. She probably is the best runner in the field and has plenty of upside. I am in no way saying that this runner cannot win – so make sure you do not overlook her chances.

But … I have gone for Kollur (11) from the Barry Lockwood stable who won her maiden here ten days ago. Ronnie Stewart rode her on that occasion and he remains about. She races forward and she will be well placed in the running throughout. A huge price on offer as well at $16. May be some good value through the Quaddie and Treble.

Cinderella (4) won here a fortnight ago. Stormed home over 1000 metres from midfield. She may need to be a little closer to the leaders if the track is favouring leaders. Taylor Marshall retains the ride on the Richard and Michael Freedman runner.

Princess Tenko (7) will lead here – won here ten days ago over 1200 metres – trained by Kelly Schweida and will be ridden by Jim Byrne. Could fill a place at odds.

Selections:

11 – Kollur
1 – Eloquently
4 – Cinderella
7 – Princess Tenko
