WINNO'S KILCOY KASH: KILCOY, AUGUST 8, 2021
By Darren Winningham | Saturday, August 7, 2021
A six-race program is set to be decided at Kilcoy on Sunday where, unfortunately due to COVID restrictions, it will take place without patrons at the track.
This weekend with the track rated “SOFT” with the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1 Butler McDermott Vietnam Veteran’s Cup
We start the program with the feature race.
Sponsored by Butler McDermott Lawyers – who are wonderful supporters of the Kilcoy Race Club and honouring our returned service men who served in Vietnam – thank you for your service.
Bartalumba (4), who is trained by Diane Murphy has run well previously in the past and looks a good chance to post a win. Chris Meehan will ride the gelding. He is drawn well should race on the speed.
Selections:
4 – Bartalumba 6 – Go Millo 5 – Blackcurrant 3 – Searing Speed
Race 2
Spurious (11) won last time out over 1600 metres at Gatton for Charlotte White and Chris Meehan. They come to Kilcoy looking to post consecutive wins, The runner does normally settle and race midfield – some speed in the race he will need to get going early to ensure he can run over the leaders.
Bangers and Mayo (1) was unplaced last time out at Eagle Farm – drops back in grade for Sears Racing. He is to be ridden by Georgina Cartwright and looks well placed here.
Divine Roco (3) is trained by Kylie & Corey Geran and will be ridden by Stephanie Lacy attempting to win for the family unit. Despite drawing barrier 15 I think Lacy will push forward and could lead them up.
Selections:
11 – Spurious 1 – Bangers and Mayo 3 – Divine Roco 4 – Ultimate Power
Race 3
With only six races this is the first leg of the Quaddie.
Cossie (8) is trained on the Gold Coast by John Wallace and resumes here. Has had a solid recent trial where she went to the line hard held. Last preparation she drew some very wet tracks – I think that she goes better on top of the ground. Kenji Yoshida rides.
Heart Vandelay (9) has a tremendous record at the track. He is trained by Sharyn Livingstone and this gelding did give her first winner as a trainer at this track. Can Jackson “McLovin” Jackson repeat the dose and get him home.
Black Sea (2) has had a change of stables. Normally races on the speed – if Adin Thompson can find his way to Kilcoy he will ride the gelding for Sunshine Coast trainer Paul Jenkins – keep safe.
Selections:
8 – Cossie 9 – Heart Vandelay 2 – Black Sea 5 – Mint Strip
Race 4
This is the first leg of the Treble.
Not keen on the race, however, I notice that Kessel Run (4) is owned by Michael Maxworhy from Sky Racing and will be ridden by Brad Stewart. This runner has the blinkers coming off for the first time – I think that could see him post his first career win.
Dallvak (1) debuts for the new stable after showing he likes to lead in his races when racing in Victoria. He now is trained by Andrew Cowell at Ipswich and the tongue tie comes off for the first time – maybe Michael Hellyer can get him home here in an open race.
Selections:
4 – Kessel Run 2 – Pure Purgatory 1 – Dellvak 8 – Faintly Macabre
Race 5
A fair few early scratchings here and a few runners making their debut.
I like the Michael Lakey trained first starter to be ridden by Adin Thompson – Giveitago (9). Has drawn not that bad in barrier 9 – just think he may ping the gates and get to the lead and keep going.
Stuart Kendrick trains Indeep (10) who was smashed when she made her debut back in February and suffered an injury. Since then, she has trialled well and looks well placed. Has drawn barrier 3 which is perfect – will jump and race prominent and has the services of Matthew McGillivray.
Selections:
9 – Giveitago 10 – Indeep 7 – Dawn Colours 2 – Boo
Race 6
An early finish to the day – the last race!
The two horses that have shown some ability at Kilcoy previously are Der Seiger (6) and Clickety Clicks (3).
Let me start with Der Seiger (6) who was unlucky last time out at Ipswich when trapped three wide. This runner has had 7 starts here for 2 wins and 2 placings – I think he is right in this race with Nathan Thomas to ride.
Clickey Clicks (3) has raced here previously well here – just seems to flash late and miss out. Jasmine Cornish rides and her claim will be beneficial.
Boom Chugga Lugga (10) has posted at win at the track as well previously. May be able to show up for trainer Pat Duff.
Selections:
6 – Der Seiger 10 – Boom Chugga Lugga 3 – Clickety Clicks 2 – I’m Jacko _____________________________________________________________________ Jockey’s Challenge
