SCHOFIELD TAKES FIRST STEPS ON COMBACK TRAIL

It’s been a while, but veteran jockey Glyn Schofield is on his way back to race riding with no plans to give riding away any time soon.
It’s been since December last year, to be precise, when Schofield was last in action.
"I had some nerve issues stemming from my neck, that would radiate down my arm and my shoulder, so that seems to be fixed through an operation that I had earlier this year," Schofield said, explaining the cause of his absence to Racing.com.
"I've got the hunger going through my body. I still want to be competitive, so whilst I've still got that and I'm healthy, I'll give it a crack.
“It's crossed my mind, older sportsmen are not that much in demand anymore, but I've got a lot of experience. I still think I've got a lot to give the industry."
Schofield took the first steps on the road back by riding trackwork at Rosehill on Friday morning, but he is fully aware it will take time for him to build to full race fitness and knows that rushing that process could be counter-productive, so he has no fixed date in mind for his return. "I've been out eight months now. I'll know when I'm fit enough,” said Schofield.
“I'll start taking some trials and jump-outs and will do a lot more work once I get my fitness up a little bit further forward than I am now. I'd say about a month, maybe six weeks at most … but I'll let my body tell me when I'm ready.”
