GURU CLASS PLEASES IN A TWO-YEAR-OLD TRIAL
By Graham Potter | Tuesday, September 21, 2021
It was a little bit of a wait until trial number 18 at the Sunshine Coast on the morning of Tuesday September 21, but the final trial of the day did produce a pleasing result for the Melissa Taylor stable when the Goldmount Lodge owned, unraced Guru Class took out the Two-Year-Old Open trial over 850m.
A trial is a trial and, while nobody will suggest it simulates race conditions, it was still good to see a horse put her best foot forward and Guru Class, a Spill The Beans filly (and haven’t the Spill The Beans progeny been travelling well) did enough to suggest she is on the right path.
Guru Class beat the Kacy Fogden trained Perfect Penelope, who was having her second trial, home by 0.50 lengths.
Another pleasing sign was the way Guru Class, who was ridden by Ben Thompson, flew the gates at the start and the way she was quickly into stride.
Having taken up the lead, Guru Class maintained that position all of the way to the line … at a comfortable gallop with ears pricked down the straight … and with Thompson hardly moving at all on her.
