REMARQUE TO UNDERGO SURGERY
By Graham Potter | Monday, September 27, 2021
Remarque, who finished third in both the Group 2 Run To The Rose (when just 1.60 lengths behind Anamoe) and the Listed Rosebud (behind Paulele) before finishing down the field in the Group 1 Golden Rose on Saturday will be out of action for an extended period of time.
In the Rosebud Remarque gave the second placed In The Congo 3kg and was only beaten by a little over a quarter of a length by that runner on that occasion.
On Saturday however, even though he was a full 3kg better off at the weights, Remarque trailed in no less than 12.50 lengths behind In The Congo (who won the Golden Rose) … giving a clear indication that all was not well with the Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes trained son of Snitzel.
This morning, Racing NSW put out the following notification:
‘Co-trainer Michael Hawkes has today reported to Racing NSW Stewards that an endoscopic examination of Remarque following the horse racing in the XXXX Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, has revealed an upper respiratory abnormality that will necessitate surgery.
‘Mr Hawkes confirmed the colt will undergo tie-back surgery in the coming week and will not race again during the Sydney Spring Carnival.’
