EF NOV 03 - DESERVED WIN FOR BRIGADOON JACK
By Graham Potter | Friday, November 6, 2009
Eagle Farm, November 3, 2009. Track - Good 3, Rail - out 10m. Maiden Plate (C, G & E - Set Weights) - 1300m. Time: 1-17.79. 1 Brigadoon Jack; 2 Mr Boogiewoogie; 3 Ibethecan.
The Bruce Hill trained Brigadoon Jack made light work of the opposition here as he cruised home under a confident ride from apprentice jockey Luke Rolls to claim a well-deserved win, his first success in six starts.
The Falvelon gelding had been knocking at the door. The three-year-old had finished second in three of his previous five starts and he made no mistake this time. Rolls had Brigadoon Jack positioned sixth on the rail early. He wasted little time in switching his mount out into clear running at the top of the straight and once Brigadoon Jack lengthened his stride it was effectively ‘ race over’ as the Hill trained runner shot away to win as he liked.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Bruce Hill: “He’s raced good all the way through ... a couple of runs he did a few things wrong ... the distance was probably a little bit short. When I first started with him and we were giving him jump-outs he just looked like a pure mad runner, but when we put him in a race he was the other way around. He just wanted to relax. He’s just got better slowly each time he’s gone around, you know. He won well.”
Jockey Luke Rolls: “Every race he just learns a bit more. Yeah, he really relaxed straight away and he was really travelling coming to the turn, so I just got out and let him do it on his own.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Brigadoon Jack): 5.50 in to 5.00. Favourite (Emsixteen): 3.00 out to 3.60. Finished fourth.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: B. Stewart, rider of Sir Mossman, sustained a harmless fall during the preliminary. Enterprise Star (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Ibethecan (G. Colless) also began awkwardly.
J. Bowditch, rider of Emsixteen, reported that after being trapped wide in the early stages he restrained his mount in an endeavour to take up a position closer to the fence, however was unable to do so and was forced to race three wide throughout the race.
Brigadoon Jack (L. Rolls) laid out rounding the turn at the 1000m. Zeroad In (M. Speers) was forced to race in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 1200m between Wildcard Billy (M. Palmer) and Polyrhythm (M. Hellyer), which shifted out.
A post race veterinary examination of Enterprise Star, which hung in in the early stages of the straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A post race veterinary examination of Zeroad In, which hung in for the entire straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
