JOHN MOORE STABLE IS SIMMERING BELOW THE SURFACE
By Graham Potter | Monday, October 11, 2021
Those who only have the time to follow the main headlines in racing might be forgiven for thinking that John Moore has been a bit quieter in the training ranks than might have been expected following his return to Australia after so many glorious, triumphant years in Hong Kong.
A stable, operating at whatever level, always remains a work in progress. Starting a stable from scratch has more than its fair share of challenges and Moore has been working on many fronts towards re-establishing a winning formula that can carry him to further feature race success down the line.
Setting up reliable staff and stable management practises is a core part of the procedure as is cementing a solid clientele as an ownership group … and then there is the sourcing, selecting and acquiring of horses, both the new two-year-olds and suitable older horses, on which the future stable profile will be based.
Taking all of that into account, the start to the new chapter of Moore’s training career at the Gold Coast, while not headline-making, has certainly been sound enough in itself.
Moore sent out his first runner from his Gold Coast base on March 27 at his new home track. In the six and a half months since kicking off his campaign, Moore has only sent out ten individual runners to contest thirty-three races. Five of those runners have won … four of them have won twice … and, altogether Moore has claimed nine victories to date for a winning strike rate of 27.27 percent.
That’s not too shabby a result wherever a trainer has horses competing.
Clearly, and this was always going to be a given, Moore has not lost the recipe for success.
Like all good dishes though, things sometimes take a while to come to the boil and, even if it has been in that quieter fashion than some might have anticipated, Moore is clearly posting the warning that his stable is simmering just under the surface.
In that respect, it would well be worth punters to look beyond the headlines and keep an eye on the Moore stable so that when it does arrive with a bang, they won’t be able to say they didn’t see it coming.
