EF NOV 03 - MOSSBEMAD MAKES HIS OWN LUCK
By Graham Potter | Friday, November 6, 2009
Eagle Farm, November 3, 2009. Track - Good 3, Rail - out 10m. Class 3 Handicap (C, G & E) - 1200m. Time 1-11.54. 1 Mossbemad; 2 Fast Fleet; 3 Rockwest.
Mossbemad jumped well and immediately crossed into a narrow lead. Jockey Scott Seamer was then allowed the luxury of being allowed to dictate the speed of the race to his own advantage.
The well fancied Elusive Port sat right on the heels of the leader poised to strike. When Seamer gave Mossbemad more rein on straightening Elusive Port went with him, but the length advantage Mossbemad had forged early became a real problem for the chaser.
Try as he might, and it was a committed effort in the circumstances, Elusive Port failed to make any inroads into Mossbemad’s lead as the latter sustained a strong finishing effort all the way down the home straight to ensure that he went one better than his second placed finish at Ipswich last time.
Mossbemad is now a two-time winner form fifteen starts. He provided trainer Desleigh Forster with the first leg of a race-to-race, training double on the day. Forster also scored with How Brave in the last race on the card.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Desleigh Forster: “Ahh, he’s a bit headache horse. We’ve spent the last two or three months trying to get him to switch off. But there was no speed today so we were a victim. I left it to Scotty (Seamer) and he rode it perfectly. He just gave him more and let him roll along. When he was left alone and allowed to do what he wanted to do in front, they weren’t going to get past him.
Jockey Scott Seamer: “Small field and also drawing wide ... sort of, you’re in the in the lap of the gods a little bit. But, no, he got a nice lead in front by himself and he was able to kick.
“The idea was to ride him quiet, but he just bounded straight into the bit, so I just had him there where he was comfortable. He went well.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Mossbemad): 3.80 out to 4.40. Favourite (Alioop): 2.10 out t0 2.40. Finished fourth.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Mardi Magrar (J. Bowditch) commenced to over-race shortly after the start and near the 1000m shifted out off the heels of Alioop (S. Katsidis), forcing Elusive Port (M. Hellyer) three wide. For some distance after leaving the 800m, Mardi Magrar, when racing ungenerously was placed in restricted room to the inside of Elusive Port. Mardi Magrar continued to race ungenerously and near the 600m shifted out wider on the track and hung out rounding the home turn.
S. Seamer, rider of Mossbend, was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner in two consecutive strides prior to the100m.
S. Katsidis, rider of Alioop, which performed below expectations, stated that the horse travelled well behind the leader during the middle stages and raced strongly to the home turn, however once a run became available inside Mossbemad, Alioop was reluctant to improve into that run and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Jockey Katsidis added that after considering the horse's finishing effort, he expressed to connections that, in his opinion, Alioop may be looking for further distance in its race. A post race veterinary examination of Alioop failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
