THE INFERNO DRIFTS IN THE BETTING AFTER DRAWING THE EXTREME OUTSIDE BARRIER IN THE EVEREST

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, October 12, 2021

James Harron, who was the winning slot holder with Redzel in the inaugural running of The Everest, remained poker-faced when the drew the extreme outside barrier for the Cliff Brown trained The Inferno who is the Herron slot representative for this Saturday’s 2021 edition of The Everest.

“I think he would rather be out there than drawn too close towards the inside,” said Harron, talking to Sky Racing after the big race barrier draw.

‘He is a very interesting horse,” said Harron. “He’s got an incredible winning record in Singapore and we’ve seen him come here and compete with some of our best sprinters.

“The feedback from Cliff all along the way has been very positive. We did want to get through that last race (in which The Inferno finished second to Wild Ruler in the Group 1 Moir Stakes after winning the Group 2 McEwen in the start prior to that) before locking everything away in terms of The Everest.

“His sectionals were outstanding in that race. Since then, he has had a really good few weeks to keep us going forward.

“Damien Lane (who has ridden The Inferno in all three of his starts since the gelding’s return to Australia) has been going and doing all of his fast week and it feels like the horse is continuing to improve throughout his preparation … and I think he is really going to be hitting this race at his absolute peak this prep.”

While there was not too much change between the pre-draw and post draw betting, The Inferno did shift out in the betting from $17 to $21 on the back of now having to jump from the widest draw.
