WINNO'S KILCOY KASH: KILCOY, OCTOBER 29, 2021

By Darren Winningham | Wednesday, October 27, 2021

A massive 7 race program on the Brisbane EKKA postponed holiday – I am certain there will be a massive crowd in attendance. The feature of the day – despite seven great races has to be the first race scheduled from the new 1200 metre chute at the Kilcoy Race Club – this brings another new element to this dynamic Club.

Here, we have the track rated “soft” and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. This track does sometimes tend to favour horses who have won here – and horses that race on the speed.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

Big Andy (1) is trained by Kelly Schweida and will be ridden by Tiffani Brooker who has been riding a few winners of late. He led them up last time at the Gold Coast on a heavy track and faded late – I think on top of the ground and maybe ridden a few pairs back he should be the testing material here.

Gentle Prince (2) is trained by Pat Duff and Kate Cowan will ride. Normally races on the speed – has drawn very well in barrier 3 – I expect that this gelding will be near the lead as they turn into the short straight at Kilcoy and will take a power of running down.

Royal George (4) will be partnered by Malea Castle. He will get the distance no drama – I think that trainer Linda Gersekowski has placed him well here.

Selections:

1 – Big Andy
2 – Gentle Prince
4 – Royal George
6 – A Glass of Bubbles

Race 2

In a Minute Riley (7) is third up here with Stephanie Lacy riding for Corey & Kylie Geran. Has been racing well and I think despite drawing wide in barrier 10 should be difficult to beat.

There is one here that could leave a sour taste in the bookies mouth – Lemon Lover (8). She has drawn well in barrier 3 and does normally ping the gates and race handy. Trained by Greg Cornish and with Jasmine Cornish in the saddle she could get home.

Then there are some unraced runners that could show up. I always have respect for anything Donald “Ducky” Baker brings to Kilcoy. His strike rate here is superb – maybe this Spirit Of Boom filly can win at nice odds with Skye Bogenhuber aboard.

Sorchpopilous (6) is trained by David Vandyke and there has been some support for this runner. Kyle Wilson Taylor takes the ride. He has had two solid trials – looks well placed here by Vandyke.

Chairman of the Kilcoy Race Club – Con Searle has bred and owns a first starter here – Zou Zouamore – trained by Kevin Kemp and will have Montanna Savva aboard – as I am always after the cash in his bag, I will say NO CHANCE! But there is nothing better than seeing Con in the winners’ stalls with a beaming smile on his face – good luck mate!

Selections:

7 – In a Minute Riley
8 – Lemon Lover
11 – Spiritual Belief
6 – Sorchpopilous
Rough chance – (12) Zou Zouamore

Race 3

Redstone is trained on the Sunshine Coast by Natalie McCall – Michael Hellyer will ride. He has been well supported in all his recent races and just has fallen short each time. A little lower grade here – a little luck and some “Muppy” (Hellyer) magic may see him post his first win in a while.

Flash Guru (7) must be put in here as this Greg Wright gelding loves to jump and lead – the perfect combination for this Kilcoy track! Tiffani Brooker rode him two starts ago when he broke his maiden status and won at Gatton. He stepped out at Doomben last start and faded badly. Look for an improved effort here.

Devillian (5) is a horse that has a proven winning record here – do not overlook this Pat Duff runner who will have the services of Hannah Richardson.

Crockett (1) is an odd runner – despite the huge weight I think he could do well here – do not leave him out.

Selections:

3 – Redstone
7 – Flash Guru
5 – Devillain
1 – Crockett

Race 4

A race over 1900 metres – first leg of the Quaddie.

Kinkuna (4) is trained by Andrew Sawden and Anthony Allen will ride. This runner looks the likely leader in this field – despite dropping back from 2240 metres from his last start I think he will be strong at the finish and hard to hold out.

Gratsie (2) has been racing in the bush with some large weight – Adin Thompson will ride for Harry Richardson – maybe could upset them here.

Consular (3) has been out of form. He always seems to perform well here and with Brad Stewart taking the ride you would have to think he may be able to get him past the post or into the placings.

It is not a race I am very keen on.

Selections:

4 – Kinkuna
2 – Gratsie
3 – Consular
6 – Likeabeel

Race 5

First leg of the Treble.

Dream Weaving (2) is trained by Jason Edwards and will be ridden by Zac Sprie who will claim 3 kilograms. That gets the mare in nicely at the weights. She does mix her form, however, she may just race handy here in this grade and get away from them late.

Global Factor (5) normally settles back in the field and sprints late – that may a drama here at Kilcoy – but her recent efforts would suggest she should race well here for Jim Hanna – Angela Jones will ride.

Me Mum’s Foxy (3) has won here previously. That is always a good sign. Gordon Hay trains this mare, and she is first up in about ten weeks. Lani Fancourt is in the saddle – when I give her a shout out and dare her to get her signature smile after the race for WINNO she normally wins a race – so have a crack Lani – I dare you!

The Bumblebee (6) also likes this track and distance keep safe.

Selections:

2 – Dream Weaving
5 – Global Factor
3 – Me Mums Foxy
6 – The Bumblebee

Race 6

Kessel Run (9) has his only career win at this track – trained by Neville Stewart – to be ridden by Brad Stewart and with Michael Maxworthy owning the gelding – I think we could get a result here.

Heart Vandeley (3) is trained by Sharyn Livingstone and will be ridden by apprentice Rebecca Wilson. This gelding has given Sharyn two wins at the track – she is now looking for a hat trick – let’s hope she gets some luck in running and wins. I think forget the last effort at Ipswich over 1350 metres – 1100 metres is more his go and he gets that distance here this weekend at Kilcoy.

Blue Pacific (7) – well you know anything that mentions the word “BLUE” – I just have to tip! Strength, power and winners – just reminding you QLDers! Damien Batters trains this gelding – only lightly raced and will be ridden by Jake Bayliss. He resumed a month ago and looked like he needed the run – I am hoping he has done some work on the track since then and will front up here fitter and ready to win.

Selections:

9 – Kessel Run
7 – Blue Pacific
3 – Heart Vandeley
11 – Der Sieger

Race 7

The last race of the day! A tough way to finish the day as well.

Modern Family (4) who is trained by Kym Afford and will be ridden by Hannah Richardson has grabbed my attention – can the girls claim the last race! Won last time out at Gayndah and swooped late to arrive on the scene and get the chocolates – will have to be ridden closer here – but I think it could get the job done.

Looking to spoil the girls party are the boy’s team of Harry Richardson and Adin Thompson who combine with Supervisor – and he doesn’t like a supervisor! This runner always goes well here at Kilcoy – I am banking on his previous efforts here where he seems to grow an extra leg and somehow perform well.

Zagitova (6) is now trained by Mick Lakey – after racing around the north of the state – Mount Isa to be exact. Rebecca Wilson will ride her well here from a nice barrier – they could cause a massive upset.

Prunda (17) is an emergency and resumes here with a list of gear changes – if he gets in the field, he is likely to race forward and may take a heap of catching out in front.

Wealth’n’power (1) will be ridden by Boris Thornton – not sure if he has ridden here previously – maybe a WINNO tour of the track and a GPS may help him and this gelding find his way around the track – a rough chance for me.

Selections:

4 – Modern Family
3 – Supervisor
6 – Zagitova
17 – Prunda
Rough chance – (1) Wealth’n’power
