KNOCKING HARD ON THE DOOR

They say second is better than third … but it can be a become a bit frustrating when second place arrives too often. On the plus side though, that continued level of consistent performance does suggest that the win can’t be far away, particularly when the horse involved was only run down in the final few strides … as was the case with the Tony and Maddysen Sears trained Imadgic at Ipswich on October 27 in a QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1350m.
Imadgic looked all over the winner halfway up the straight, but Ma Ma’s Rose gunned her down close to the line to land a debut win of her own to leave Imadgic to rue the fact that she her race record now showed three runner-up finishes from only five starts … the last two of those coming in succession … both by less than a quarter-of-a-length margin.
The fact that the Hidden Dragon filly has now showed to good advantage on both soft and good going over distances ranging from 1000m to 1400m suggests that she should had plenty of options moving forward to rectify that empty space in the winning column.
