WINNO'S WINNERS: SUNSHINE COAST, NOVEMBER 20
By Darren Winningham | Friday, November 19, 2021
This weekend the drive takes us up the highway to the Sunshine Coast – let’s hope there is no crashes or anything to upset the trip! The track is rated “Good”. The rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. Short and sweet this weekend – I am on a summer holiday!
NB: As these selections were made prior to final scratchings please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1
A two-year-old race to start us off here.
Like the effort of the Mick Mair runner Sneaky Starter (4) who won on here on debut in a fast time. Tiffani Brooker remains in the saddle – great each way value at $9.
Honey Pot (8) debuts here for the strong Gollan Racing yards. Magnificent effort in a recent trial – drawn on the rails and has been well supported since the markets have open. Stephanie Thornton will ride.
Les Ross Racing has won all the two-year-old races in recent weeks with Jackson Morris riding them. They combine here with Mishani Jewel (10) – she is second up here after a solid effort on debut at Eagle Farm – represents some serious value as well with $26 on offer.
Selections:
4 – Sneaky Starter 8 – Honey Pot 10 – Mishani Jewel 2 – Invinovich
Race 2
A sprint over 1000 metres.
Xerri (9) from Edmonds Racing resumed at the Gold Coast over 900 metres and was flashing home late behind the winner Iolite (6). I think the extra distance suits this weekend and he should be able to get the job done here.
Iolite (6) has a solid record here at the track with 2 wins from 3 starts. Sharyn Livingstone trains this runner and Corey Bayliss will ride. He will go fast in front and could be hard to run down late.
Avocado Sunset (5), trained by Jared Wehlow, has won his last three starts in Mackay – looks well placed.
Selections:
9 – Xerri 5 – Avocado Sunset 6 – Iolite 2 – Aleya’s Dream
Race 3
This 1800 metre race has been decimated by scratchings.
Chris Waller Racing has Karlstad (6) in the race coming off a solid win midweek at Eagle Farm over 1800 metres. Jimmy Orman will ride. The stable mate Quiet Michael (11) gets back to a distance that where he could show his best effort – Luke Dittman will ride.
Daulat Tai Panaziz (1) ran a solid second last time out at Eagle Farm over 1840 metres. If he repeats that effort he could cause an upset here.
I would lay the favourite Neutron (3) - not sure if he will get the distance.
Selections:
6 – Karlstad 1 – Daulat Tai Panaziz 3 – Neutron 11 – Quiet Michael
Race 4
A race over 1600 metres for the three-year-olds.
The Robert Heathcote pair of Rayjen (3) and Sergeant Silva (2) look well placed here. Rayjen (3) won last time out over 1400 metres – Taylor Marshall stays aboard this weekend.
In the same race Sargeant Silva (2) faded late after racing on the speed. Second up here this weekend on a track where he goes well and back to the mile, look for a dramatic improvement - $31 is great each way value. Leah Kilner will ride.
Caboche (6) won his maiden last time out. Won easily and could step up to weekend grade – Luke Dittman will ride.
It’s All Talk (5) gets up to a mile and could dramatically improve as well.
Selections:
3 – Rayjen 6 – Caboche 2 – Sergeant Silva 4 – Big Muskie Rough chance – (5) It’s All Talk
Race 5
This race is over 1400 metres.
Tony Gollan trains Nicci’s Spirit (13) who is looking for a hat trick of wins here with Stephanie Thornton to ride. Meets a stronger field this weekend – however, on her last victory she rates well.
Maestoso (15) is trained here by Natalie McCall and Ben Thompson will ride. Has won her last two starts here and the last win was over 1400 metres. Solid sectionals last time out would suggest, down in weights, he could show up.
Darleb (4) is trained by Kris Lees and has raced well in some good class races in NSW – looks like is well placed by the stable to post a victory.
Bonaparte (8) is trained locally by Stuart Kendrick. Five starts at the track for 3 wins and a second – despite the terrible barrier, barrier 17, I think he will do well with Ryan Maloney aboard.
Selections:
15 – Maestoso 4 – Darleb 13 – Nicci’s Spirit 8 – Bonaparte Rough chance – (2) Smooth Move
Race 6
First leg of the Quaddie. A good sprint race here over 1000 metres. Some nice types resuming here.
Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted train Stellar Magic (3) and Shnitty (8). Stellar Magic (3) won last time out – this weekend has the claim for Jaden Lloyd and she has a good third up record.
The stable mate is Shnitty (8) and who doesn’t love a “Shnitty” with chips and gravy after a day at the races. I think you will be able to shout everyone if this filly can win first up at $31 for the stable. Michael Cahill has ridden her previously when she won her maiden prior to being tipped out for a spell. She resumes here with a solid trial effort behind Miss Hipstar (1) – she is down on the minimum, drawn well she could sprint well fresh. Regardless of what happens here – keep following her as she steps up in distance.
Inasec (10) and Refero (5) are trained by Gollan Racing. Inasec (10) won her maiden here leading all the way in dominant fashion and running great times. She steps up here in grade – but that effort would suggest that she will be hard to toss. Stephanie Thornton will ride again.
Refero (5) was disappointing last time out when a heavily backed favourite and he weakened to finish fifth behind Stellar Magic (3). He meets him much better at the weights and Ben Thompson will ride.
Glorious Ruby (2) is a good quality filly who won last time out for Kyle Wilson Taylor (KWT) and Bryan Dais. She is very tough and does love this track.
Miss Hipstar (1) was dynamic in a recent trial win – loves to jump and run – Leah Kilner will claim here for Kelly Schweida Racing. She is undefeated first up and could show up despite the huge weight – she is drawn well in barrier 3 as well – keep safe. A tough race for mine – many chances.
Selections:
8 – Shnitty 10 – Inasec 3 – Stellar Magic 2 – Glorious Ruby Rough chances – (1) Miss Hipstar & (5) Refero
Race 7
First leg of the treble this weekend. A good quality race here with some good sprinters resuming.
Tony Gollan Racing versus Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted Racing for mine this race – which camp are you in?
Shooting For Gold (4) – a wonderful effort last preparation is resuming here with a strong trial under his belt – a change in jockey with Boris Thornton aboard here – looks well placed. The stable mate is Totally Charmed (7) who will enjoy the fast tempo of the speedsters that will cart them along. He will be storming home late – an awesome record at the track with 8 starts for 6 wins and 1 third. Andrew Mallyon will ride here.
Zoustyle (2) is a class sprinter and resumes here from a 61-week spell. Despite that long time away from the track he was ultra-professional winning a trial at Eagle Farm three weeks ago. Ryan Maloney will ride him.
The Move (8) is a good sprinter as well and resumes after a nine week break since winning on the Gold Coast in good style. He will be hard to beat here – Stephanie Thornton will ride.
Selections:
4 – Shooting For Gold 2 – Zoustyle 7 – Totally Charmed 8 – The Move
Race 8 Mooloolaba Cup – Listed
A Listed race here with a great field assembled.
I like the local trained runner Way Beyond (16) from the Stuart Kendrick stable with Leah Kilner to ride. He has had 7 starts here for 4 wins and 2 seconds. I think that the 1800 last time out was a little too soon for him – and possibly the Eagle Farm surface may have contributed to the run. Back to his home track and at a mile I think that he represents some good value here.
Ligulate (1), the race favourite, stormed home late last time out at Eagle Farm over 1500 metres – the extra 100 metres would appear will be no drama. Trained by Cody Morgan and again to be ridden by Andrew Mallyon - looks well placed here.
Green Jacket (15) from Edmonds Racing will be better suited here at the Sunshine Coast and goes down in weight. Could cause an upset.
Wapiti (5) is trained on the track by Gary Duncan and will be ridden by Taylor Marshall. Gets in good at his home track - keep safe.
Selections:
16 – Way Beyond 1 – Ligulate 15 – Green Jacket 5 – Wapiti Rough chance – (10) Tokoriki Lad
Race 9
The last race! A Class 6 over 1200 metres.
Gee Tee Tee (1) is a nO’Dea & Hoysted runner resuming here. Does race well fresh and has a liking for this track – a recent trial would suggest he is ready to go first up here – Ben Thompson will ride.
Acrobatic (3) was solid last time out when being run down in the last few strides after leading. I think ridden more conservatively here he will be able to finish off strong late and make his presence felt in the finish – Jimmy Orman rides again.
Sir Warwick (6) has won his last four starts for trainer Jake Capewell. Jim Byrne rides him again here. He has been working nicely through his grades and this is probably his toughest test to date, but he seems to be strong on the line. Dropping back from 1350 metres from his last start win to the 1200 metres looks ideal for him.
The Pines (8) has a superb record on the track – do not underestimate her chances. Robbie Fradd will ride for the Gold Coast stable of Toby & Trent Edmonds.
Gollan Racing steps out here with Shamaton (11), a last start winner over 1000 metres. Hasn’t won over 1200 metres, however, with the speed on here, maybe could cause an upset if they go fast and hard in front.
Selections:
6 – Sir Warwick 1 – Gee Tee Tee 3 – Acrobatic 8 – The Pines Rough chance – (11) Shamaton _____________________________________________________________________
