DOOM NOV 07 - RINGA RINGA ROSIE LEAVES RIVALS DIZZY

By Graham Potter | Monday, November 9, 2009

Doomben, November 7, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 4m.
2yo QTIS 600 Handicap - 1030m. Time: 1-00.29.
1 Ringa Ringa Rosie; 2 Jantzen; 3 Turnitup.

The Bevan and Richard Laming trained Ringa Ringa Rosie blitzed her rivals with a compelling come-from behind victory to score in sparkling fashion on her debut.

The $3.50 favourite Jantzen had already showed he is no slouch when running a short-half-head second to De Lago Bloom in his first outing and when he went clear from the break and had a six to seven length advantage over Ringa Ringa Rosie turning into the home straight, few would have thought the latter was in with a shout.

Ringa Ringa Rosie had raced second last early ... was up to third last on straightening, but still seemingly too far out of ground to be a threat. Horse and rider had other ideas though. Jockey Christian Reith switched the filly out wider on the track and then proceeded ask his mount to let down with meaning.

Ringa Ringa Rosie needed no extra prompting and she extended well, making every use of her long-striding action to reel in the leader with telling acceleration before getting up in the final strides to win by a short-half-head.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Chris Reith: “She struck a little bit of interference early on, but coming to the corner I was always confident. She was still chopping and changing everywhere but, my God, wait until she learns.

“She got a bit of pressure early, you, know, and you don’t need that on two-year-olds. It can make them switch off and do a few things wrong. She overcame that and like I said, when I let her go ... she exploded. But she’s still got to learn. She’s got a lot to learn and she’ll be exciting to see when she does.

“That’s the good thing about (Trainer) Bevan (Laming), you know. He doesn’t push them early. He lets them come through themselves.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Ringa Ringa Rosie): 13.00 steady.
Favourite (Jantzen): 3.20 out to 3.50. Finished second.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Furious Lee (M. Speers) jumped away awkwardly and missed the start. After leaving the 800m, Ringa Ringa Rosie (C. Reith) had to be checked when tightened for room by Marking Time (G. Colless), which after improving to the inside of Turnitup (D. Brown), shifted in away from Turnitup as a result of racing greenly.

Approaching the home turn, Marking Time (G. Colless) shifted out off the heels of Chosen To Fly (M. Hughes), forcing Furious Lee (M. Speers) wider. Count Spur (P. Hammersley), when under pressure, shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail near the 100m. Chosen To Fly (M. Hughes) was inclined to hang out for the majority of the event. Gold Record lost its near-fore plate in running.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Count Spur, trainer B. Guy stated that after discussing the run with jockey P. Hammersley he agreed that the horse may not be concentrating and that he would experiment with blinkers on the horse. A post-race veterinary examination of Count Spur failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Mr Guy advised that he would notify stewards of any abnormality that may come to light that may have had an effect on the run today.
