STACEY CALLOW'S SPECIAL MOMENT AND HOW HER PARENTS REACTED 2450 KM AWAY

Noel Callow has had plenty of good days at the racetrack but, if you are fortunate, there is always another ‘first’ waiting to fall in place along the way … and Saturday was one of those days which Callow will undoubtedly file in the memorable category.
Noel Callow’s daughter, apprentice Stacey Callow, had her first taste of race riding action on Saturday at the Ceduna meeting in South Australia and Callow, who was riding at the Gold Coast, and his wife Renee beat a regular path to the press box throughout the day to watch a live-streaming of the Ceduna races, courtesy of Greg Irvine and On The Bit.
Stacey just warmed up with an unplaced finish in the first race. She then had some pressure on her she partnered the $1.70 favourite It’s All Gossip in the next, but she made no mistake, guiding the Garret Lynch trained runner to victory to the absolute delight of her parents watching 2450km away.
Not only was winning in only her second race ride a real confidence booster for the four-kilo claimer, but it also gave her bragging rights over her dad at this stage of her career as Noel confirmed it took him fifteen rides before he rode his first winner.
Callow wasn’t about to be outdone by his daughter on the day though and he duly went out and won the next race at the Gold Coast on the first-timer Sanzera for trainer David Vandyke.
Callow raised two fingers when bringing Sanzera back to scale to happily signal what he will obviously hope to be the first family race-day double.
And he wasn’t finished yet.
Callow would add another win on Weona Smartone, the shortest priced favourite of the day at the Gold Coast, to his tally for the day but, even though his effort in the saddle helped guide Weona Smartone to victory and gave him a personal double for the day, there is no doubting that, when he looks back on this day many years from now, which ride and which result will stand foremost in Callow’s mind.
