NO CIGAR - BUT THE SECOND PLACES KEEP COMING
By Graham Potter | Saturday, December 18, 2021
In the week from December 11 to December 18 inclusive, the Tony and Maddysen Sears training partnership had to settle no less than four runner-up finishes.
All of their second placed runners finished less than a length behind the winners, with two of them in fact only failing to get the chocolates by the narrowest of margins.
The runners involved were:
Maya Bay – finished second, 0.40 lengths behind Wudang Blade in a BM70 race over 1100m at Toowoomba on December 11.
Little Miss Pixie – finished second, just 0.10 lengths behind Cold Hard Fact in a Class 3 over 1200m at Toowoomba on December 11.
Spirit One – finished second, 0.20 lengths behind Remember Mary in a BM60 over 900m at Kilcoy on December 14.
And the best run of all …
Bestie – finished second on a Saturday in town, just being edged out in the final strides by McCovey Cove in a colts, geldings and entires No Metro Wins race over 1200m at Eagle Farm on December 18 … a very progressive run after winning at Dalby and Toowoomba in his two previous starts.
