THE FINE LINE BETWEEN WINNING AND SECOND PLACE
By Graham Potter | Friday, December 31, 2021
You never know when you are well off in racing and there is certainly no future in ever crying foul or claiming bad luck. The results are the results. It is as simple as that.
You simply have to take the results that go against you on the chin but, having said that though, that doesn’t mean there are not times when you wring your hands in frustration, particularly if you have a run of near misses.
During the last three months (October, November and December) the Tony and Maddysen Sears training partnership have landed eleven winners which is a more than reasonable return.
Quite incredibly though, the stable also reeled in no less than nineteen second place finishes during that time, with those runners, on a number of occasions, finishing less than a length behind the winner.
In fact, you would have to think that if there was a Premiership for second place finishes, the Sears camp would be runaway leaders.
As discussed in a previous article, of course, second is better than third and it also beats a whole lot of other alternatives.
So, while the winners get the headlines, let’s just give some acknowledgement to the those runners who have a put a second place behind their names and to the Sears Training Partnership for keeping such a large cross-section of their runners firing so consistently.
Those second placed finishes were: Bestie, Dark Son (x2), Even Now, Imadgic (x2), Illicit Affairs, Kobang, Lady Fey, Little Miss Pixie (x2), Maya Bay, Mojo Baby (x2), Prometheus, Raging Pole, Spirit One (x2) and Royale Return.
