Jason Holder, who currently leads the Adelaide Jockey Premiership, has been suspended for five months by stewards after returning a positive test for a banned substance following the random testing that was undertaken at trackwork last month.
Holder ultimately pleaded guilty to two charges … the first being for testing positive with a second charge added when Holder reportedly attempted to submit a substitute sample when asked to present himself for further testing later that day.
When reaching their verdict on penalties, stewards did take into account Holder’s previous clean record and some mitigating circumstances, but nevertheless suspended the top rider for five months (reduced from nine months) for the positive urine sample and he was disqualified for two months (reduced from four months) for producing a substitute sample.
The penalties will be served concurrently.
It is believed that Holder has applied to appeal the length of penalty that has been imposed.
