SCORE ONE FOR CRAIG ROBERTSON

The victory of the Melissa Taylor trained Vienna Empress at the Sunshine Coast on February 4 gave jockey Craig Robertson his first winner since relocating to Queensland … and it hadn’t taking him long to put that important first win on the board in his new surroundings.
In fact, Vienna Empress was only Robertson’s eighth ride since he kicked off the later chapter of his career at Doomben with a couple of rides for John Symons and Sheila Laxon at Doomben on January 22.
“Craig and his family relocated from Victoria for the same reasons that Dale (Smith) and I did … for a better lifestyle for the family … and he will be one of the hardest working jockeys in Queensland atthe moment,” said Taylor.
“He is a very good friend of Dale. A senior rider, he is a highly regarded and well-respected, not just as a rider but as a person, by everybody … from senior riders, apprentices, from trainers and connections.
“Like I said, he is a very hard worker. He rides work here for David Vandyke, Esprit Racing and a lot of connections here.
“I hope will he gets the opportunities he deserves.”
