A SECOND SUCCESSIVE WIN FOR GOLDEEL

It is always a very positive sign when a horse can put successive wins together and Goldeel did exactly that for trainers Tony and Maddysen Sears when she took out a Class 1 Fillies And Mares Plate over 1400m at the Gold Coast on February 12.
The smart daughter of Dundeel had claimed her first win, at the third time of asking, by a clearcut 1.30 lengths in her previous start and the merit of that win saw punters show her due respect here as she started joint second favourite at $3.90.
Angela Jones, who had partnered Goldeel to that first win, was again given the responsibility in the saddle and she set Goldeel on her way in superb fashion, landing in the lead before allowing Eccentric (also a $3.90 chance) to take up the running
The favourite My Shamana ($3.70), who had been slow away, also ranged up early and went past Goldeel, but Jones still had Goldeel enjoying the run of the race, hugging the rail just off the speed while moving at a very comfortable gallop.
Jones maintained that watching brief until the turn but, on straightening she gave Goldeel the green light and, in the first instance, Goldeel quickly put paid to My Shamana and then set sail after Eccentric.
Eccentric was full of fight though. Halfway up the straight it looked like Eccentric might be holding Goldeel and then, when Goldeel did get up alongside her rival, for a moment it looked as if Eccentric might still hold on as she tried to kick again, but Goldeel was relentless and she got the better of the game Eccentric inside the final 100m to go on to score by just under a quarter-of-a-length margin.
The win, apart from being a successive success, was also particularly encouraging as Goldeel is relatively light on race experience (has only had four starts) and the combination of developing ability and a competitive mindset that she showed here is likely to serve her well in the future.
