WISHART AND KILNER BOTH SIDELINED AFTER FALL

Maddy Wishart and Leah Kilner, the two jockeys involved in a two-horse fall in the sixth trial at Doomben last week, will both be out of action in the coming weeks.
“I’ve got a broken hand and a fractured eye socket,” said Wishart, confirming her injuries.
“The eye injury is horrendous. The swelling goes down as soon as I put ice on it, which is good, but the pain is pretty bad … particularly when I first wake up in the morning.
“I’m going to go back for more scans and I’ll go from there. There’s no surgery or anything like that required on my hand, so I hoping to be back in about three weeks. I’m hoping anyway.”
Wishart’s has been in this position on several previous occasions, with her career has been plagued by injuries.
“It is frustrating. Every time I get fit again and get the hang of it … I’m out again. I might have to put myself in bubble-wrap,” joked Wishart.
As far as Leah Kilner is concerned, it was initially thought she had escaped the incident with bruising, but, sadly, that was not the final outcome.
“When I was at the hospital after the fall, the emergency doctor said there was only bruising and some swelling around the ribs. They said I would be in pain but there was no fractures.
“But then, I went to the doctor’s on Friday to get a clearance, the radiologist had been through it and when the doctor looked at my X-ray report, she told me I actually have a fractured and displaced rib.
“So, that’s how it is all ended up now, I’ll be out for two weeks.
“It;s not too bad. It could have been worse. I was very lucky so I can’t complain,” concluded Kilner.
