DOUBLE FOR PALMER AT THE SUNSHINE COAST
By Graham Potter | Tuesday, November 17, 2009
Fresh from his first Saturday Metropolitan win since returning from injury (on Casholet in the last race at Eagle farm on Saturday), jockey Matthew Palmer continued to step up his presence and rebuild his profile by landing a double on the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
Palmer produced a copybook ride on the Kelly Doughty trained Tierqualo early in the day to get the good-looking son of Sequalo home in comfortable fashion. It was the grey’s second success in only three starts.
Then, as he had done at Eagle Farm the day before, Palmer piloted the winner of the last race on the card to complete the double. This time he was on Melrina Miss for trainer Ray McCall.
It is early days back in a highly competitive environment, but Palmer has signalled that he is clearly intent on making up for lost time after being forced out of action for three months following a fall from Use To Be A Dancer at Eagle Farm on July 18.
