VIENNA EMPRESS … A GOOD ENOUGH RUN AFTER HER SECOND WIN, BUT SHE JUST DOESN’T LIKE IPSWICH
By Graham Potter | Sunday, February 20, 2022
The Melissa Taylor trained Vienna Empress claimed a creditable third place at Ipswich in a Fillies And Mares Class 2 Handicap over 1100m on February 20.
It was her first run since scoring her second career victory back on February 4 – and the result was enough to take her career stake earnings past the $100 000 mark.
“She just doesn’t handle Ipswich,” said Taylor. “She has only run at Ipswich once before …when she ran second there, beaten a lip by Me Me Lagarde.
"Luke Tarrant rode her that day. He got off her and said, I don’t think the horse handled the track.
“You look at the size of her … she is fifteen hands … you’d think she is the type suited to Ipswich, but she raced very similar in her latest start there. Jake Molly said she just didn’t really pick up and wasn’t really happy on the track.
“So, given that, as good as those results were in the circumstances, we might just rule a line through Ipswich for Vienna Empress.”
The daughter of Holy Roman Emperor’s current race record stands at two wins, two second places and two third placed finishes from thirteen starts.
