SPIRIT ONE MAKES IT TWO-IN-A-ROW

The Tony and Maddysen Sears trained Spirit One made it back-to-back wins when taking out BM70 Handicap over 1000m at Toowoomba on March 12.
The daughter of Spirit Of Boom was given a freshen up after her previous win in a BM68 Handicap exactly a month earlier. She did have a trial on March 8 in preparation for this latest outing and she also won that trial (beating Kisukano) to confirm she was again primed for success.
This time apprentice Isabella Rabjones held the reins on Spirit One, who started second favourite at $3.70, and Rabjones was quick to chase Spirit One up from a wide draw … initially finding a handy third spot before pushing on again to race right up alongside the two outsiders Remember Mary ($18) and Krakatoa Eruption ($26) who were setting a strong pace at the head of affairs.
Right on cue, Rabjones then made her move approaching the home turn with Spirit One maintaining that strong run to surge forward three wide to easily go past the other two early pacemakers when the field straightened for home.
The three length advantage Spirit One opened up early in the straight was brought down to just half-a-length at the line by the faster finishing I’m Twentyfourseven ($4.80), which was understandable given all of the work Spirit One had done throughout the race, but the bottom line was that the result was never in any serious doubt once Rabjones had made her move on the turn.
These back-to-back wins have taken Spirit One’s race record to five wins from twenty-one starts (with seven minor placings), having accumulated $266 362 in prize-money.
