GOLDEEL COMES UP JUST A COUPLE OF LENGTHS SHORT IN HER EFFORT TO MAKE IT FOUR WINS IN-A-ROW

The Tony and Maddysen Sears trained Goldeel’s effort to extend her unbeaten streak to four straight wins fell just a couple of lengths short as Dundeel filly had to settle for third place behind Mosshiki in the National Apprentice Race Series Class 4 Handicap over at Eagle Farm on March 16.
The lightly raced three-year-old's rise through the ranks has been impressive … with her previous three successive victories coming in a Maiden, a Class 1 and a Class, 2 which is never an easy hat trick to achieve.
While Goldeel has had an apprentice jockey on board in all but one of her six starts, the Apprentice Series Race was the first time that leading apprentice Jaden Lloyd was in the saddle of Goldeel, who jumped as the third favourite at $4.40.
Lloyd did well to get Goldeel across from the worst of the draw to settle into a comfortable third spot early and Goldeel remained well placed, saving ground on the inside just a couple of lengths off the lead until the field entered the home straight.
For a moment on straightening, Goldeel was slightly cramped for galloping room. It would have been only a minor inconvenience had Adin Thompson on the $3 favourite Mosshiki not chosen that exact moment to put his mount into accelerator mode. By the time Lloyd was able to really start pushing Goldeel out, Mosshiki was off and gone … and his strong, sustained run put the result beyond doubt a long way from home.
Goldeel did chase valiantly and only gave away second place in the final strides as the faster finishing This Is So ($8.50) finished with a flourish to snare the runner-up spot.
Goldeel’s record now stands at three wins and one third place from only six starts.
