KELLY SCHWEIDA'S STABLE VERY MUCH ON SONG

When Regal Edition crossed the line 1.80 lengths ahead of his nearest rival on Sunday April 3 at the Sunshine Coast it was trainer Kelly Schweida’s sixth winner from his last twelve starters dating back to March 26.
The nine-day blitz included a metropolitan double at Doomben on March 26, a same day double over two venues (Eagle Farm and the Gold Coast) a week later on April 2 … as well as further provincial wins at Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast.
It really was a tremendous effort by the Eagle fFarm based trainer … not least in his race selection in terms of placing his runners.
The best example of that can be seen by his handling of two of those winners, Tyresa and Honkytonk Diva, on Saturday April 2.
Schweida scratched Tyresa from a QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate over 1300m at the Gold Coast, instead taking her to a seemingly more difficult race in town … another QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap, this time over 1400m where $42 700 went to the winner as opposed to the $14 500 on offer to the winner at the Gold Coast.
Tyresa duly saluted, at the juicy odds of $16.
Schweida also scratched Honkytonk Diva from the race that Tysera contested and won in town, instead electing to let her take her place in the line-up of the race from which he had scratched Tyresa at the Gold Coast … and Honkytonk Diva duly saluted, winning comfortably.
Turns out Schweida had both of these races covered.
The efforts of both of these runners validated Schweida’s decision-making process in no uncertain terms and certainly gave the stable plenty to celebrate before either race meeting had even moved beyond the second race.
Schweida’s winners over this ‘hot spot’ period were Slow Hands (who was winning for the sixth time), Star Gamble (who was winning for the second time in only six starts), Magic Fox (now a five time winner), Tyresa (who won so well at only her third start), Honkytonk Diva and Regal Edition (who both ticked the Maiden win off the list).
Six jockeys did the honours in the saddle for these particular Schweida stable winners … Tiffani Brooker (won twice), Mark Du Plessis, Jimmy Orman, Brad Stewart and Kyle Wilson-Taylor all got the job done on their respective mounts.
Schweida is currently sitting in fifth spot on the Brisbane Trainer’s Premiership ladder.
