A QUIET MONTH FOR THE TAYLOR STABLE

It was a quiet month for Melissa Taylor Racing with the stable only sending out five runners … Kudu (who raced twice), Vienna Empress, Flying Zamboni and The Kewess … for the month of March.
Vienna Empress fared best of those, earning a game second place finish in a Fillies and Mares Class 2 Handicap over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast on March 20. with jockey Craig Robertson, who won on the filly two runs back, again guiding her fortunes from the saddle.
Vienna Empress ($5) landed in the lead but was restrained in the opening strides by Robertson who allowed the speed to go around him so that he could position Vienna Empress in a positive position in second spot on the rail, just a couple of lengths off the leader Kokopo Kitty ($4.60).
Approaching the home turn Kokopo Kitty quickened up and extended her lead to establish close to a three length advantage over Vienna Empress on straightening … and the leader then had a kick as she set sail for home.
Vienna Empress never gave up the fight, but Kokopo Kitty was good enough to maintain a winning advantage all the way to the line, ultimately holding the Melissa Taylor trained runner to a 2.80 length margin.
It ended up being pretty lonely in second place as Vienna Empress herself came home comfortably clear of the third placed Tallahassee Lassie ($6.50) who finished a further 2.30 lengths adrift.
Vienna Empress continues to maintain her consistent prize-money earning record having now won twice and earned five minor placings from her fourteen starts.
