YELLOW BRICK WINS ON DEBUT

To get a horse to win on debut is always a pleasure for a trainer and the Tony and Maddysen Sears trained two-year-old gelding Yellow Brick achieved that result when he took out a QTIS Two-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate over 1100m at Ipswich on May 7.
The son of The Mission had one official trial (all the way back on December 7, 2021) … which he won … and he came into the race as a strong second favourite at $2.60, close behind his market rival and favourite Invinovich, who topped the betting boards at $2.25.
Jag Guthmann-Chester jumped Yellow Brick in the leading line and then pushed him forward to take up the running with Invinovch settling in second place on the back of the Sears trained runner.
From there, the two main fancies pretty much had the race to themselves with Yellow Brick always holding the ascendency.
Invinovich did try to pressure Yellow Brick as the field came to the home turn, but Yellow Brick cornered the better of the two and then kicked again early in the home straight to take his advantage out to two lengths.
That passage of play set Yellow Brick up for a victory and he stuck to his task with meaning, to the degree that he had more than enough in hand to see off another challenge by Invinovich, who came again over the closing stages to get within 0.30 lengths of Yellow Brick without seriously threatening to change the result.
The combination of a well-prepared horse and a confident ride had produced the perfect result.
