QUEENSLAND TRAINER AND JOCKEY PREMIERSHIPS - WITH A MONTH TO GO THERE IS STILL A LOT TO PLAY FOR

With a month to go in the 2021/22 racing season, there is still plenty to play for in the Queensland Trainer and Jockey Premierships … even for those who have their particular Premiership already all wrapped up.

Tony Gollan is one of those. A runaway leader in the Brisbane Trainer’s Premiership, Gollan (on 84 winners) is sixteen winners off making it a third successive season with a century of Metropolitan winners. Given the limited number of meetings available, that target might be a bridge too far this season, but you can rest assured Gollan will not give up that chase until it becomes a mathematical impossible task.

Ryan Wiggins, similarly, looks home and hosed in his defence of the Provincial Jockey’s Premiership with 85 winners. His target would be to better the total of 92.5 winners … his best return … which he put on the scoreboard when winning the Provincial Jockey’s Premiership last season.

Stuart Kendrick has also all but locked Provincial Trainers' Premiership away. His 62 winners puts him twelve winners clear in this particular race … which is just 3.5 winners short of his best return of 65,5 winners, which occurred in the 2017/18 season when. Ironically, Kendrick had to settle for second place in this Premiership. He should better that.

Two other Premierships have already been decided. They are both on the state front where Tony Gollan, on 126 winners, is a full forty winners ahead of his nearest rival in the State Trainer’s Premiership while, interestingly enough, in the State Jockey’s Premiership the situation is very similar with Jimmy Orman on 125.5 winners, 31.5 winners clear of his nearest rival … underlining what a superb season these two identities have enjoyed.

Other Premierships (with a month to run):

THE BRISBANE JOCKEYS’ PREMIERSHIP:

The Brisbane Jockey’s Premiership, which is still up for grabs, has come down to a three-way contest between Jimmy Orman (68.5 winners), Jim Byrne (63.5 winners) and Ryan Maloney (58 winners). Expect a fight to the finish here with Jim Byrne sure to be riding hard in his chase for his fifth Premiership as he tries to deny Orman and Maloney, who are both looking for their first Brisbane Jockey’s Premiership title. Orman, who has been riding a treat all season, starts the month in the pound seats.

THE COUNTRY TRAINERS’ PREMIERSHIP:

The Trainers’ Country Premiership should be decided between Todd Austin (currently with 50 winners) and Tanya Parry (just one behind Austin on 49 winners). Bevan Johnson is next best on 41 winners.

THE COUNTRY JOCKEYS’ PREMIERSHIP:

Ric McMahon currently holds sway in the Country Jockeys’ Premiership with 45 winners. That puts McMahon seven and eight winners ahead of Dan Ballard and Brooke Richardson respectively.

APPRENTICE JOCKEYS’ PREMIERSHIPS:

It's a two-jockey race in the Brisbane Apprentice Jockey Premiership between Kyle Wilson-Taylor (51.5 wins) and Jaden Lloyd (48.5 wins) who have been trading wins and places on the ladder for many months now. You can expect more twists and turns to unfold in this one.

It is also a two-jockey battle in the Provincial Apprentice Jockey Premiership between Angela Jones (72 winners) and Jasmine Cornish (70.5 winners). This has been as keen a contest as any Premiership in the book and there is no reason to expect any let-up from either of these riders in the coming month.

It is even closer in the Country Apprentice Jockey Premiership with only six wins separating the first four riders on the ladder. Tahlia Fenlon and Olivia Kendal are locked together on 22 winners, Alisha Donald has 19 winners and isabella Rabjones sits on 16 winners. This one could be heading for a blanket finish.
