EF NOV 21 - DRENALIN'S IMPRESSIVE STRIKE-RATE
By Graham Potter | Monday, November 23, 2009
Eagle Farm, November 21, 2009. Track - Good 3. Rail - True. NMW (3yo and Up) - 1000m. Time: 56.55. 1 Drenalin; 2 Decibella; 3 Poor Judge.
After scoring in determined fashion at Eagle Farm, the James Lyons trained Drenalin now has an enviable strike rate of fifty-percent having won five of his ten starts. He has won three out of five starts over 1000m.
Drenalin settled in midfield early. The gelding was in eight spot racing five wide on straightening and jockey Brad Stewart didn’t hesitate to take the four-year-old out across heels even wider on the track into what looked to be the better going on the day.
Decibella had tracked Drenalin throughout and she followed Drenalin out to emerge as the widest runner in the straight.
As Drenalin and Decibella surged out wide, Poor Judge won the battle amongst the runners on the inside of the track and it became a race in three over the concluding stages with Stewart getting that vital bit extra out of Dernalin to enable the gelding to claim victory by a half-neck from Decibella with Poor Judge finishing third.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Jockey Brad Stewart: “James (Lyons) has done a terrific job with him. He has got a few little loose screws in the head the horse and, you know, James has placed him well and shown a lot of patience with the horse.
“I’ve always felt he would be better if you could hold him up a bit, but, you know, he has always been in small fields where his natural pace has taken him to the front. Today, I was always going to just try and sit in behind them if I could.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Drenalin): 5.00 in to 4.60. The winner was the favourite.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Run The Course, which twisted a plate in the race-day stalls, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Run The Course (S. Katsidis) was slow to begin.
Sleepy Jackson (M. Hellyer) and Sequaboomwa (J. Byrne) were both tightened for room at the start between Morcombe (S. Bogenhuber) and Laertes (A. Pattillo), which shifted out. Embracing (D. Browne), which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start by Red Story (M. Cahill), which shifted out. The Crusader (J. Taylor), Decibella (B. Pengelly) and Bretonneux (S. Seamer) all raced wide throughout. Leaving the 600m Sleepy Jackson shifted out taking Bretonneux wider on the track.
Stewards advised trainer J. Crompton that Laertes would be barred from metropolitan racing until it establishes provincial form.
