WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, AUGUST 27, 2022
By Darren Winningham | Thursday, August 25, 2022
Eagle Farm this weekend. The track is rated ‘Good’. The rail is out 7 metres for the entire circuit.
Straight into it this week.
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1
Large field over 1000 metres. I just hope some of the reserves get a run here.
Zuma California (14) resumed on a heavy track at Doomben – I think on a firm track and second up there is scope for improvement – trained by Cameron Richardson and Tegan Harrison, who was in dynamic form with a winning treble last weekend, will ride him again.
Rose Of Sebring (15) is trained by Tony Gollan and Ryan Maloney will ride her from a nice gate – she races well fresh and will be right in the race.
Fetch (8) comes off a midweek win here on this track. Trained by Steven O’Dea & Matt Hoysted, Ben Thompson in the saddle. The mare seems to enjoy racing here and could post consecutive wins.
Sweet Margot May (11) resumes here for Robert Heathcote– Jimmy Orman will ride. I think she enjoys firms surfaces and will get those conditions here. She performed well in a recent trial and looks ideally placed for a first up win.
Selections:
11 – Sweet Margot May 14 – Zuma California 15 – Rose of Sebring 8 – Fetch Rough chances – (3) Gemelon Bolt and (5) Dynamic Duo
Race 2
The first leg of the Early Quaddie is over 1835 metres.
Only a small field to face the starter.
Steven O’Dea & Matt Hoysted train Ocean Treaty (6) who was disappointing last time out here over a mile. Probably will be better for that run – she had a month between runs and looked like she really needed the hit out last start. She has had three weeks between runs here, and with this small field and light weight gets in nicely – Ben Thompson will ride.
Couldn’t Refuse (4) won last time out at huge odds. Trained by Desleigh Forster and again to be ridden by Jim Byrne, he will be competitive here again especially with the speed on and the ability to get a nice trail into the race in the small field. He has been well supported from $10 into $6.50 since the markets have opened.
Bottega (3) was disappointing last time out. He was second up – so this may have been the issue. Up in distance and third up look for a bold improvement for this Lee Freedman trained runner – Kyle Wilson Taylor (KWT) will ride.
Selections:
6 – Ocean Treaty 4 – Couldn’t Refuse 3 – Bottega 1 – Love Tap Rough chance – (3) Warp Speed
Race 3
A distance race over 1835 metres.
Moktaffy (7), trained by Chris Waller, is third up in Queensland after campaigning in Melbourne previously. His last start effort was great – in saying that he got too far back in a race that was slowly run and stormed home late. I expect that he will be better for that effort. Ben Thompson will ride.
Vendidit (7) is on the quick back after a solid second last weekend. Trained by Glenn Thornton, he will be ridden by Boris Thornton. The extra distance will be right up his alley.
Backlog (4) keeps on running placings for Gold Coast trainer Scott Morrisey – maybe can improve here with any luck. Will be ridden by Angela Jones and her 3-kilogram claim should assist.
Evita La Vie (12) faded badly last start – not sure why – maybe could improve here.
Selections:
11 – Moktaffy 7 – Vendidit 4 – Backlog 12 – Evita La Vie Rough chance – (8) Derani
Race 4
Small field over 1200 metres.
Legal Espirit (3) and Winside (4) clashed last start with the chocolates going to Winside (4). I think that there may be a reverse of that result here this weekend with the weights a little closer.
Smart Image (8) will strip fitter – second up for the Tony Gollan racing team. Ben Thompson will ride.
Genzai the Wolf (5) loves this track and could show up at huge odds.
Selections:
3 – Legal Espirit 4 – Winside 8 – Smart Image 5 – Genzai The Wolf
Race 5
A 1200 metre sprint for the three-year-olds.
The Gillian Heinrich runner Fire Love (8) debuted with a win on the Sunshine Coast. Then, last start, got too far back in a slowly run race here over 1000 metres. She steps up to 1200 metres here and the way she hit the line last time out she could win this race against some more seasoned runners. Luke Tarrant will ride again.
Spiritualised (1) is trained by Gollan Racing - won at Doomben three weeks ago. Jimmy Orman retains the ride. Deserves to be a short-priced favourite in this race on that win – just not sure if he has one good run left in him this preparation – he is fourth up in this preparation.
Prince Shalaa (2) won here at a midweek race when resuming for Steven O’Dea & Matt Hoysted. He is undefeated in two career starts – can he retain that undefeated record here? Boris Thornton will ride him again and has a 100% strike rate on him – 2 rides for 2 wins.
Utah Nash (10) from the Desleigh Forster yards may be a rough hope – keep safe.
Selections:
11 – Fire Love 1 – Spiritualised 2 – Prince Shalaa 10 – Utah Nash
Race 6
First leg of the Quaddie. A large field here to face to the starter.
Tough race to be honest – Russian Warrior (11) returns after a quick trip south and a run at Rosehill last start. She Is trained on the Gold Coast by Allan Chau and Sean Cormack will ride her again. I think that the 1400 metres will be right up her alley. She has been smashed in the betting from $26 into $11. May pay to follow the money.
Mahia (10) made her debut for the Gollan Racing yards at Ipswich and came from well back and won. She steps up to weekend grade and up in distance with Angela Jones riding – I think that she could be a solid improver.
Indiscreetly (1) resumes for trainer Danny Bougoure with Michael Cahill riding. Winner of a recent barrier trial and a mare with some solid form in a better grade than this. If she can carry the huge weight, she will be right in the finish.
Little Mix (3) has been supported in the markets as well.
Selections:
11 – Russian Warrior 10 – Mahia 1 – Indiscreetly 3 – Little Mix
Race 7
First leg of the treble. A No Metro Win over 1200 metres. A huge field to face the starter.
Jubai Pride (11) resumed in a slowly run race first up over 1000 metres. It looks like this race has some speed in it and the extra distance will be of great assistance to her – Larry Cassidy will ride.
Mill Rossa (5) is trained by Mark Currie, and he has elected to go for a 3-kilogram claim by placing Angela Jones on him this weekend. He was out of his grade last time out in the Mackey Newmarket – despite this the run was quite good and places him under the microscope for this race.
Adonisea (16) is a Barry Baldwin runner who is fourth up into this preparation with Taylor Marshall to ride. I just have concerns with him running out a solid 1200 metres – however, in saying that, if he can get a nice trail behind the speed, he may be able to win.
Lepreezy (14) is an Annabel Neasham runner who debuted in QLD in her last start. I think that second up in QLD and with the extra distance that she looks well placed in this race – Samantha Collett will ride.
Beaux Rumble (15) is a Heinrich Racing runner with Luke Tarrant aboard – if they are leading and winning with the rail out so far – this is the runner to get on.
Selections:
11 – Jubai Pride 5 – Mill Rossa 16 - Adonisea 14 – Lepreezy Rough chance – (15) Beaux Rumble
Race 8
A race over 1000 metres. A fair few scratchings here.
Far Too Easy (4) resumes from a 21-week spell and has won a recent barrier trial in which he looked very forward. I’m expecting him to sprint well this weekend with Kyle Wilson Taylor aboard. Trained by David McColm, he looks well placed to win – he just sometimes can get back in his races and with the rail out 7 metres – may need some luck.
It’s Me (12) is a Brett Cavanough trained runner who has won two trials in the lead up to this first up assignment. I would have preferred her across the road at Doomben, but she has raced in better class races than this and should be hard to beat. She has bandages on her hind legs and with genuine speed in the race she should be handy throughout in running when Ben Thompson to ride.
Liza With A Zee (6) won last start at huge odds for Gollan Racing – has a poor second up record – however, her last start win was good enough to suggest that she will race well here.
Selections:
4 – Far Too Easy 12 – Its Me 6 – Liza With A Zee 7 – Red Rubi
Race 9
The last race of the day is over 1400 – a Class 3 – these are very hard races in which to find a winner.
The Robert Heathcote trained Hatchet (5) has won two starts in a row – both times Brodie Loy has ridden the gelding and he will ride him in this race. Just has drawn awkwardly in barrier 15 and may need some luck from out there.
Jason Edwards trains Pentito (7) who ran well here two starts ago when narrowly beaten by Chatty Lady – since then he has come out and posted a win at the Sunshine Coast. Sam Collett has ridden him in his past three starts and will ride again. Last time out the win was soft at the Sunshine Coast. He has drawn poorly here in barrier 13. Probably will race midfield and be striking the line late.
Tolkwowsky (8) is trained by Barry Lockwood with Dale Smith to ride – does he remember how to get around Eagle Farm of will he need a GPS to assist him? The gelding is a last start winner at Ipswich and is fourth up here this weekend. Drawn in barrier 10 – another runner that will race midfield and work home late.
This is a tough way to end the day – I reckon you should hope you are in front coming into this last race.
Selections:
5 – Hatchet 7 – Pentito 8 – Tolkowsky 1 – Highlights\ _____________________________________________________________________
