WINNO'S WINNERS: GOLD COAST, SEPTEMBER 17, 2022

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, September 15, 2022

GOLD COAST this weekend – always an amazing day at the Aquis Park setting.

The track rated “GOOD”. The rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. There is forecast showers and rain in the lead up to this meeting. If the rain comes it may be a tough day.

With that in mind I will be super brief.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

Really like the Annabel Neasham runner here – Plundering (6) with Sam Collett to ride.

The Sears Racing trained Yellow Brick (8) maybe looking to pave the way across the Gold Coast Turf and win his second start after a dynamic win on debut at Ipswich – Ben Thompson will ride.

The Lee Freedman trained Yiska (1) and Soothsayer (7) are not without a chance.

Selections:

6 – Plundering
8 – Yellow Brick
1 – Yiska
7 – Soothsayer

Race 2

Small field over 2200 metres.

No interest here – Za Ceibas (1) trained by Chris Waller Racing has the blinkers off for the first time – maybe he can post another win. Sam Collett rode him to victory three starts ago and she goes back aboard.

Selections:

1- Za Ceibas
3 – Tappy’s Lad
5 – Heart of a Lion
2 – Call Me Legend

Race 3

Tough race - anything can win.

Let me tip a roughie here – Master Marko (5) who is trained by Kelvin Tyler and will be ridden by Jasmine Cornish who will claim 3 kilograms and has been riding in great form of late. She rode this gelding here nearly a month ago to victory over this distance – he will handle a heavy or soft track as well. $15 on offer!

Coup De Tonnerre (6), from the Gollan Racing yards, was disappointing last time out. Third up here look for an improved effort.

Selections:

5 – Master Marko
6– Coup De Tonnerre
8 – Sheppey
3 – Brazen Breccia
Rough chance – (1) Indiscreetly

Race 4

A no metro win race!

I like the form of Liza With A Zee (7) who resumed with a solid win then dropped back in distance over 1000 metres at Class 6 grade. Back up to a suitable distance and third up here this Gollan Racing runner looks well placed with stable apprentice Angela Jones aboard.

Do not overlook Mill Rossa (6) here from Mark Currie stables at Toowoomba. Loves this track and loves soft surfaces. A great 3 kilogram as well for apprentice Jasmine Cornish.

Mishani Fraudster (10) loves a wet track as well – massive odds of $26 and will wear the Les Ross Racing distinctive sky-BLUE silks – always great to see jockey Luke Tarrant in these colours!

Selections:

7 – Liza With A Zee
6 – Mill Rossa
10 – Mishani Fraudster
2 – Far Too Easy
Rough chance – (3) Never Paid

Race 5

Last leg of the early Quaddie. Open sprint over 900 metres – I love these races!

Tough race – the class runner is Mossman Gorge (1) from the Matthew Dale yards – Jimmy Orman will ride. Resumed at Moonee Valley on a heavy track – if it is not worse that slow, he will be right in this race.

Toby & Trent Edmonds train Global Citizen (8) on the track. Has a superb record here – resumes here and Michael Cahill will ride.

The Move (2) from Gollan Racing is the early favourite and not without a serious chance.

Selections:

1 – Mossman Gorge
8 – Global Citizen
2 – The Move
10 – Dream Weaving

Race 6

This is the first leg of the Quaddie. A race over 1200 metres.

Zuma California (8) won last time out in a midweek race. Cameron Richardson trains and Jasmine Cornish will ride again, and her claim could be vital in this race late. The gelding will race handy and will handle a wet track.

I have serious respect for the local runner – Minto’s Paradise trained by Les Kelly with Noel “King” Callow to ride. The winkers are going on here – he has had 7 starts on his home track for 3 wins and 3 placings and he loves wet tracks. They have him at rude odds as well - $31 on offer – could be a massive blow out chance.

It is a very open race – play wide.

Selections:

8 – Zuma California
4 – Minto’s Paradise
6 - Safework
12 – Moskeeta
Rough chance – (5) Not Another Reiby

Race 7 COASTAL DEMOLITION PINK RIBBON CUP

First leg of the treble over a mile.

Let me start with the top weight Me Me Lagarde (1) trained on the track by Toby and Trent Edmonds. The mare is first up with only one trial under her belt. She is in a class above these other runners and deserves to be favourite for the race – right. Robbie Fradd will ride her again. I just think she cannot win first up with a huge weight, and I have gone wide looking for a better value. She gets too far back – however, will be flying home late.

The Tony Gollan trained Vaccine (9) won impressively last time out at Eagle Farm with Ben Thompson in the saddle. They combine again here and, with the lightweight and the prospect of a wet track, she represents amazing value at around the $9 each way.

Tara Jasmine (2) was sensationally backed last time out when winning at Eagle Farm for Grafton trainer John Shelton. Tegan Harrison rides her again here. On her last win she is a genuine chance – just think that she may struggle to make ground late.

Queen Of Dubai (9) resumes for the new stable – David Vandyke and could upset them first up.
Selections:

9 – Vaccine
1 – Me Me Lagarde
2 – Tara Jasmine
8 – Queen Of Dubai

Race 8

Open race here over 1350 metres.

I like a roughie here – At Witz End (8) at around the $21 mark. He loves this distance and has been racing in some quality races since resuming. He carried a huge weight last time out at Murwillumbah and was not disgraced. He races well at this track and the last season’s leading Gold Coast rider Noel Callow has the ride. I think he is a wonderful bet to knock off the favourites.

Last start winner Sir Rocket (5) should be hard to roll here – trained by Robert Heathcote and will be ridden by Tegan Harrison. He can throw is some odd results from time to time so you will not be wanting to take a silly price. He raced over a mile in his last run – too far – back to a suitable distance watch for an improvement.

Matowatakpe (2) was great first up making Legal Espirit work extra hard to beat him narrowly. He will strip fitter for that effort and if the track gets into the heavy range he will thrive in it – Ben Thompson will ride.

The Annabel Neasham runner – Hasabro (3) is having the second start for the stable – his first up effort was solid, and he will strip much better for that run. He was gelded prior to resuming last start and will carry a large amount of gear changes again – I expect that he will be in the finish late despite the huge weight.

Selections:

8 – At Witz End
6 – Sir Rocket
7 – Matowatakpe
2 – Hasabro
Rough chances – (11) Way Beyond

Race 9

The last race over 1350 metres – tough way to end the day

Steven O’Dea & Matt Hoysted train Enterprise Mia (6) with Angela Jones to ride – her claim should be of benefit. I think she was disappointing on face value last time out when defeated as a very short-priced favourite. Maybe the heavy track was the reason – or maybe the torrid run she had in transit was to blame.

Big Bad Bruce (4), trained by Gollan Racing, is fourth up now and could be ready to show something, but he will need to improve on his last start effort. In saying at he gets his first look at the Gold Coast track with Jimmy Orman riding.

Mississippi Prince (13) has won his past three starts. He resumed here a fortnight ago for new trainer Brent Gray and won very well – Robbie Fradd retains the ride. He has been smashed since the markets have opened – firming from $13 into $7.50. Where there is smoke there may be fire! Maybe a topical tip as well – the Prince now becoming the King after the recent death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Harlequin Field (3) has won his past two outings on this track – has drawn badly in barrier 14 but goes well on this circuit. Ryan Maloney will ride.

Lemon Duchess (9) trained by Greg Cornish and to be ridden by Jasmine Cornish are looking to get a family win here. She loves to lead – barrier 15 maybe a huge problem – however, if she can get across and not use too much petrol, she could be difficult to run down late – she also is a duck on wet tracks – keep this in mind.

Rations (12) could show up here at huge odds as well.

Selections:

6 – Enterprise Mia
3 – Harlequin Field
13 – Mississippi Prince
9 – Lemon Duchess
Rough chances – (12) Rations & (4) Big Bad Bruce

Jockeys Challenge

Tough week – there are many that have chances here. Ben Thompson v The Girls – Sam Collett and Jasmine Cornish. I think Ben could get the job done here – but I will be having something on Jasmine.

WINNO V FLEMO

The battle continues with WINNO and FLEMO. I gave him a flogging last weekend – but it was his first weekend back. I am cautious this weekend he seems to go well at this track!

Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
