GEMELON BOLT MAKES IT THREE WINS FROM HIS LAST FOUR STARTS

By Graham Potter | Saturday, October 1, 2022

The smart Gemelon Bolt made it back-to-back wins and took his prize-money earnings past the $250 000 mark when he prevailed under a polished ride from Jasmine Cornish to land a BM75 Handicap over 1000m at Eagle Farm on October 1.

The four-year-old son of Falvelon had won two of his last three races (and finished second in the other) leading into this contest. In all of those starts trainer Chris Anderson had used apprentice jockeys (Kyle Wilson-Taylor in the two wins and Adin Thompson in the runner-up finish) and this time, with Gemelon Bolt set to carry 60.5kg, Anderson handed the reins to Cornish with her 3kg claim bringing that weight burden down to 57.5kg.

Arguably, that was a winning move.

The value of having a competent 3kg claimer in the saddle was clear for all to see here.

Cornish is already generally very accomplished at getting her horses away quickly at the jump and this race was no exception as she chased Gemelon Bolt into a clear lead early, crossing from a number nine barrier draw to take up the running at a keen gallop.

With Cornish rating her mount perfectly in the run, Gemelon Bolt cornered with a length advantage over his nearest rival on straightening. He had doubled that lead with 200m left to run … and was looking a likely comfortable winner before the $6 chance Fletch emerged out of the pack with a serious challenge, accelerating strongly and cutting back Gemelon Bolt’s advantage with every stride.

Gemelon Bolt wasn’t stopping though and, as bold as Fletch’s effort was, Gemelon Bolt’s own effort was good enough to see off the faster finishing Fletch by 0.20 lengths at the line.

This win took the consistent Gemelon Bolt’s race record to five wins and seven places from nineteen starts.
