EN POINTE MASKES IT THREE WINS FROM FIVE STARTS

The Robert Heathcote trained En Pointe improved her career record to three wins from only five starts when she took out a QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Handicap over 1200m at Doomben on October 22.
Jasmine Cornish, who had previously partnered En Pointe to successive wins, was reunited with the daughter of Better Than Ready here after being unable to ride her in her previous start (in which En Pointe lost the rider at the start) due to a suspension.
Back on board, Cornish and En Pointe ($3.60) set out to keep their perfect record intact with the horse having shown no end of improvement since she was defeated at Dalby on debut … and they did just that, although they had to take care of the late rush of the fast finishing $2.60 favourite Clairvue Molly to be able to earn the desired result.
Cornish signalled her intentions right from the first stride where she took En Pointe to an immediate lead and then refused to give up her position when challenged for that role early on by, firstly, Even Now ($17) and then Athena Nyx ($11).
With her now standard, well measured, controlled ride, Cornish was content to only hold a half-length advantage at the turn, but she then wasted no time in upping the ante by asking En Pointe to stretch out more once in the home straight and they proceeded to set a tough target for the others to chase down.
To her credit, the favourite Clairvue Molly did run on strongly from behind … and was closing on En Pointe with every stride … but Cornish’s judgement had proved to be spot on as En Pointe saluted with 0.25 lengths in hand.
That’s three from three for the En Pointe / Cornish combination now with En Pointe having already amassed $143 000 in prize-money from just those five starts!
