EF DEC 02 - DECRYPTION OUTGUNS BULLION BAY
By Matthew Grimson and Graham Potter | Thursday, December 3, 2009
Eagle Farm, December 2, 2009. Track - Good 3. Rail - out 11.5m. Maiden Handicap - 1300m. Time: 1-18.43. 1 Decryption; 2 Bullion Bay; 3 Montalbert.
The Patinack Farm colours were again to the fore in the second race on the card as the Jamie Nielsen / Jim Byrne combination completed a race-to-race double when the lightly raced three-year-old Decryption scored an end to end victory.
Byrne set the filly to the front from the break and she had things all her own way at an easy gallop until the turn. The pressure came on straightening when the year older Bullion Bay pushed forward to join Decryption up front.
The latter tried to lay down the law to the Decryption, but the filly was taking no nonsense from the mare and, after a short, sharp battle Decryption repelled that challenge to edge away to score her breakthrough win in only her third start.
WINNER FEEDBACK Trainer Jamie Nielsen: “She did a bit of work last time and the other one (Alberton Park) was just too good on the day, but it’s a pretty smart horse. Jimmy (Byrne) said that our horse was just a little bit fresh, so there wasn’t much between them ... and I still don’t think there is.
“(Liam) Birchley has got Alberton Park going into a Listed race on Saturday, so he’s got an opinion of it. I think this filly, with the right placing and a bit more time, she’ll be up to that too. She’s probably the most promising filly we have here.
“She’ll put herself anywhere in this size field because she’ always running one, two, three. She could even come from behind. She is pretty smart this little girl. She drew the ten alley with the rail out 11.5m so we had no choice but to go to the front today. She fought on good."
Jockey Jim Byrne: “The other day she didn’t really know what she was there to do. I gave her a squeeze up out of the machines and she just raced a little bit too well in herself and they just kind of just got her the last bit.
“Today again she just raced a little too well in herself. I think she’s going to be a nice horse. She’s definitely the sort of horse that... there is definitely not just a maiden in her, you know, there is a couple more wins left in her.
“I think, you know, I don’t even think she really has to lead, it’s just the way things have been falling. They’ve been weak races and you might as well take it up to them.
“We had a bad gate today and the reins kept slipping because of the weather sort of thing. She still races a little bit well in herself, but she’s learning. I like the way she wants to rocket to the line. As soon as you give her a bit of rein she really does express her way to the line.
“When the other horse kind of raced up to her she really wanted to race with it. She was very strong. I like the way she really belted on. It was a really nice win.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Decryption): 1.90 out to 2.05. The winner was the favourite. STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Bullion Bay (B. Pengelly) shifted out at the start making contact with Montalbert (M. Heagney).
Approaching the 600m Shovnco (D. Browne) shifted out and bumped Wacheem (M. Palmer). Tamose (S. Katsidis) hung out rounding the home turn taking Shovnco wider on the track. Tamose was inclined to hang out under pressure over the final 150m. Wacheem was caught wide for the majority of the event.
M. Heagney the rider of Montalbert was reprimanded regarding his whip action on that horse over the final 100m.
