WINNO'S WINNERS: THE KING OF THE MOUNTAIN

KING OF THE MOUNTAIN - The feature race at Toowoomba on New Year’s Eve 2022 with race caller Anthony Collins calling the race – will it be the “penultimate race” commentary – or will it be “the gates crash back”?
Nine out of the twelve runners are trained locally.
The scene is set.
I believe that a local wins the race – no surprise.
However, the one I like is $31 in the markets – Northern Express (11) trained by Michael Nolan with Jaden Lloyd to ride.
Was super two starts ago when winning at Doomben. Had no luck last time out. Has drawn handy and will be assisted by the genuine speed and tempo in the race.
Mark Currie trains Chatty Lady (10) who returned with an astonishing win first up two weeks ago at Eagle Farm. Jim Byrne will ride the mare – she looks well placed and will be hard to hold out.
Argyle Lane (6) is very progressive and clearly has been targeted to win this race. A win on the track prior to coming to Eagle Farm and the winning impressively.
Josh King trains and it is wonderful to see Michael Murphy retained for this big race. It would be a great story to see them combine and win this feature event on the track.
The invaders from off the track are probably best represented by Mass Destruction (4) from the Tony Gollan stables.
This runner was sensational in the Weetwood earlier in September when narrowly beaten here. The speed in the race probably will ensure that he is flying home.
He needs some luck and will have to come down the crown of the track. Kyle Wilson-Taylor will ride this gelding for the first time. Here lies another story – a local lad winning this feature race – in its initial year!
One thing is for sure – there will be plenty of noise on the track and plenty of sore heads Sunday morning around town.
