GOLDEELUCK PUTS HIS NAME ON THE SCOREBOARD

By Graham Potter | Saturday, December 31, 2022

While the stable’s win in the $750 000 King Of The Mountain later in the evening rightfully garnered the bulk of the attention at the Toowoomba meeting on December 31, the Tony and Maddysen Sears trained Goldeeluck was doing his part to keep the stable scoreboard moving with a win of his own ... landing his first career win in a QTIS Three-Year- Old Maiden Plate over 1200m in only his second career start.

The son of Winning Rupert had finished second on his debut when chasing over the 900m dash at the Gold Coast three weeks earlier and he brought the benefit of that run and a handy step up in distance to the 1200m trip into play here to score a hard-fought victory by a 0.20 length margin.

Tegan Harrison got Goldeeluck ($5) to land in the leading line at the start which was enough to hold the rail position (Goldeeluck jumped from barrier one) where he settled in third place, a couple of lengths behind Ashmolean, a $16 outsider, who had speared into a clear early lead coming from out wide, and the $7 chance Master Gee, who raced in second place.

Harrison remained patient down the back straight and in the sweep to the home turn ... Goldeeluck’s third place was never threatened during this time ... and Goldeeluck straightened with the two leaders firmly in his sights.

Harrison just took a moment to ensure that there was a clear run between Ashmolean and Master Gee and, once that gap widened marginally, Harrison wasted no time in pushing Goldeeluck in-between those two runners and the Sears trained runner quickly moved up to contest the lead.

Ashmolean, with that early effort taking its toll, was the first of the three to be beaten, but Master Gee was not going to give in that easily to Goldeeluck, and these two runners matched strides from the 150m to the 75m, until Goldeeluck took the measure of his only challenger with some aplomb to claim that important first career victory.
