KAH SET TO HELP MY YANKEE GIRL MAKE AMENDS
By Graham Potter | Friday, January 6, 2023
My Yankee Girl, who was relegated to second place in her last start after dead-heating with Invincible Caviar, because of her rider Blake Shinn’s serious whip indiscretion, will have a new rider ... because of Shinn’s enforced absence ... when she lines up for the BM78 Paul Quill Handicap, the third race at Sandown on Saturday.
The rider’s name ... Jamie Kah, who ironically was aboard Invincible Caviar in that cut and thrust battle with My Yankee Girl which was ultimately decided in the steward’s room following a protest by the stewards themselves.
My Yankee Girl now has a chance to set the record straight and trainer John Salanitri is more than happy to give Kah the ride, in fact, telling Racenet that, “they rang for the ride, so that gives you a bit of confidence.”
That run against Invincible Caviar was over 1200m and the daughter of American Pharoah will step up to 1400m this time, the distance over which she scored her last win.
"She is tracking in the right direction. We can't be happier with her in the way she has come through that last run,” Salanitri told Racenet.
My Yankee Girl is currently quoted as the race favourite at $2.90.
