COYLE STRIKES WITH HIS FIRST RUNNER IN BRISBANE
By Graham Potter | Monday, June 1, 2009
Sir Edward Williams Handicap (Listed) - 1500m. Time: 1-31.44. Track - Slow 6. Rail - True. 1 Soiled; 2 Obvious Choice; 3 Lucky Luna.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Jason Coyle: “That’s my first runner in Brisbane. He seems to appreciate a soft track. His ideal distance is probably this distance (1500m). I think 1600m just might find him out and in the 1400m sometimes they go a bit quick. So, once he is fit, anything around 1400m, 1500m suits him best, I think. Probably in about two or three weeks we’ve got another race in mind, I think it is at Ipswich. There are a few races still out there around during the carnival for him.”
Jockey Craig Williams: “Nobody likes to be drawn out there (Soiled had the worst of the draw in a big field) but it might be beneficial to just let the horse find its feet. (Jockey) Peter Robl (who rode the horse when it won two starts back) said ... his advice about the horse was, just don’t dig him from the gates ... take your time, be patient.
“Unfortunately when you are drawn out there, if you take your time your time and be patient, you are riding your horse, but a lot more are digging up inside you wanting to make you work a lot harder. We got outside the lead. We took a bit of a sit. They wanted to sprint a fair way out but I wanted to keep him a bit longer ... a little bit longer. All credit’s got to go to the horse, you know. He dug deep for me and he was great at the end. ”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Soiled): 15.00 out to 17.00. Equal favourite (Rags To Riches): 6.00 out to 7.00. Finished fourteenth. Equal favourite (Obvious Choice): 5.50 out to 7.00. Finished second.
