CHINCHILLA ROSE GIVES WILLIAMS HIS FOURTH WINNER ON THE DAY
By Graham Potter | Monday, June 1, 2009
Ripper Stakes (Group 3 - Fillies & Mares) - 1400m. Time: 1-25.44. Track - Slow 6. Rail - True. 1 Chinchilla Rose; 2 Bird Of Fire; 3 Jacqueline Rouge.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Steele Ryan: “We’re going alright. We’ve got a good team of horses and a good team of staff there at the moment. She stood there a bit flat footed at the start. I said to Craig ... he wanted to go forward ... I said just get back another couple of pairs if you can. He got back a few extra pairs but what a great rider. Craig rode half the program here today, he’s dead-set freak.
“I’ve got to talk to the owners and that. She loves backing up after seven days, so we’ll look at the Eyeliner and then seven days to the Winter Stakes or if we can find a trial in the middle maybe and go straight to the Winter Stakes. You know ten days, ten days ... and then the Winter Stakes.
“She’s had a lot of racing. She’s had six or seven starts in Sydney on wet tracks. I just think if I can hold her up a bit longer I’ll probably lean towards the trial and the Winter Stakes and see if we can get Craig Williams to ride her again.
“No. I’m not at all disappointed she’s not in the Stradbroke, because then we would have to back her up three weeks in a row and I didn’t want to do it. It was only her second run for me since she got back from Sydney and I was very happy with her after last Saturday.
Jockey Craig Williams: “She produced a great finish today. I was really delighted to get the ride. She won the BTC Sprint last year and she’s come back to Mares company. She has the score on the board. When I spoke to Steele Ryan he said that she has really trained on well. I said, well look, I love horses that fire up. Today was a downgrade from that BTC Sprint and you saw it today, with that big weight, it was back to the future, she really did motor. She really wanted to win today.
“I think the track up the straight is pretty even. You know, I was riding the ride horses today and it’s a great result.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Chinchilla Rose): 7.50 in to 7.00 out to 7.50. Favourite (Belong To Many): 3.50 out to 4.40. Finished nineteenth.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Chinchilla Rose (C. Williams) was slow to begin. Bird Of Fire (N. Rawiller) over-raced in the early stages.
B. Shinn was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Belong To Many. B. Shinn stated that the horse travelled well and enjoyed a nice run however, failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion performed very disappointingly.
A post race veterinary examination of Court revealed the filly to be lame in the off-fore leg. Trainer C. Conners will be advised a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to Court racing again.
