WINNO'S WINNERS: SUNSHINE COAST, JANUARY 28

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, January 26, 2023

Sunshine Coast this week. We have 9 races this week with the track rated ‘good’ and with the rail in the true position for the entire circuit.

Looks like a super day with warm weather forecast – there will be plenty heading to the track.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

The two-year-old’s kick off the program.

The Sears Racing runner Adelad (2) did make an impression on debut on his home track in the Pat O’Shea. A natural progression would see him hard to hold out here. Ben Thompson, who has a terrific record with the stable will ride.

Mishani Raider (1) from the Less Ross Racing yards has had five career starts. All have been very good. Looking to break his maiden status in this race. The blinkers come off – Jimmy Orman to ride.

Trifling (3), trained by Helen Page, could sneak a place in this small field.

Desleigh Forster trains Lucky Leni (8). Has been trialling well, this filly will be ridden by Jim Byrne – if there is any market moves, it may be advisable to follow the money.

Selections:

2 – Adelad
1 – Mishani Raider
3 – Trifling
8 – Lucky Leni

Race 2

A BM85 over 2400 metres.

Not a race I am keen on.

The Jason Deamer trained Greek Hero (1) looks well placed and Ash Morgan has made the long trip to the Coast to ride him again after winning on him two starts ago at Doomben over 2000 metres.

A Deel Of Humour (5) put in a solid effort last time out at Ipswich – on this larger track I think he could be hard to hold out for trainer Michael Morrison – Jaden Lloyd will ride.

A rough chance to First In Line (5) on a quick back up after a run last weekend at Randwick over 2000 metres.

Selections:

1 – Greek Hero
5 – A Deel Of Humour
2 – First In Line
4 – Tappy’s Lad

Race 3

Lucky Exchange (3) is third up here after winning when resuming. I think he is looking for the mile. Trained by the astute Kelly Schweida, with Jimmy Orman aboard, looks a wonderful chance at $5.

Sailor (2) has won his past two starts in midweek grade. Trained by Kris Lees, he will be ridden by Andrew Mallyon – both wins over the mile have been impressive.

Very Intoxicating (9) has been racing in higher grade races. Is trained by Chris Anderson and has been well supported since the markets have opened. Stephanie Thornton will ride – look for some improvement third-up.

Selections:

3 – Lucky Exchange
2 – Sailor
9 – Very Intoxicating
8 – Finsceal

Race 4

A Class 3 over 1400 metres.

Atlantic Eagle (12), trained on the track by Paul Duncan, is the one to be on here. Won four weeks ago – only a lightly raced mare – with Kyle Wilson Taylor (KWT) to ride. She has won three from five starts and each time Kyle has ridden her.

Love Sensation (15) is the danger from the Tony Gollan Racing stables. Ryan Maloney will ride. Won first up here three weeks ago and is looking to post back-to-back wins.

Some rough chances to Dixon Bay (5), who goes well on this track, and Elected (6), who won here last time out.

Selections:

12 – Atlantic Eagle
15 – Love Sensation
5 – Dixon Bay
6 – Elected

Race 5

A sprint race here over 1000 metres.

Steady Ready (1) will start a short-priced favourite from the Sears Racing stables. Will lead this lot and maybe the only thing that can stop him is the huge weight of 61 kilograms – although Angela Jones does take 2kg off with her claim.

Hard To Say (2) is a Jason Deamer runner who just needs some luck in running. I think back to the shorter distance and larger track he will be belting home late with the speed on up front. Ash Morgan will ride this one.

Mouette (5) is trained by Danny Bougoure and will be jumping and running – not sure if she takes on Steady Ready (1) in the running – if she does it could lead to a boilover in the race. Michael Cahill will ride.

Rough chance for Extreme Belief (7) from the Les Ross stables.

Selections:

1 – Steady Ready
2– Hard To Say
5 – Mouette
7 – Extreme Belief

Race 6

First leg of the Quaddie over 1000 metres.

I like a genuine winning chance here from the Kris Lees stable at Newcastle – The Bopper (4). His performance at the Gold Coast on a day where leaders were winning where he flashed home late to go under in the narrowest of margins. On this big track and some good speed he looks the one to beat - Andrew Mallyon will ride.

Rex Lipp & Nick Hahn train Simply Fly (3). The gelding’s recent form is nothing to brag about, however, when he gets on this Sunshine Coast track he seems to grow another leg. Jimmy Orman aboard and super odds of $21 – do not underestimate this runner.

Mo’s Crown is trained by Cody Morgan at Tamworth. Resumes here, has been trialling well and there has been some good money for the runner since the markets opened – Jaden Lloyd will ride.

Rubiquitous (10), trained by Chris Anderson, could show up and nice odds.

Selections:

4 – The Bopper
3 – Simply Fly
6 – Mo’s Crown
10 – Rubiquitous

Race 7

First leg of the Treble. A solid race over 1600 metres for the three-year-old runners.

Mission Of Love (11) is trained here by John Symons & Sheila Laxon. She won a midweek race at Doomben over 1350 metres when settling towards the rear of the field and then storming home to go away and win. On that run it would suggest that the mile is right up her alley to win. Jaden Lloyd will ride her again.

Red Top (4), from Sears Racing, gets his chance to break through for a win. He has been racing well over the mile. Kyle Wilson Taylor will ride him here – I think his strong riding style will suit him and keep his mind on the job.

The Vowels (3) is from Edmonds Racing and has won his past two starts. Has a look at the mile for the first time – but on his recent efforts this should be no trouble. Ben Thompson takes the sit on him after winning on him two starts ago here over 1400 metres on a Sunday meeting – keep safe.

Porky (8) is looking for the mile – maybe back on a larger track we could see an improvement.

Selections:

11 – Mission Of Love
3 – The Vowels
4 – Red Top
8 – Porky
Rough chance – (7) – Diana Affair

Race 8

The feature race - the Sunshine Coast Cup over 1400 metres.

Steven O’Dea & Matt Hoysted have two solid chances here in Tumbler Ridge (1) and a newcomer to the stables, Chaillot (2).

Tumbler Ridge (1) resumes here for the team with Boris Thornton riding. Has been trialling well and, despite the large weight, he looks well placed.

Chaillot (2) has an exceptional first up record. Ran in the trial won by Tumbler Ridge (1) and looked to have plenty in hand and would benefit from the hit out. Ben Thompson will ride and, on a firm track, she looks well placed in this class.

Roman Aureus (5) is trained by Brian Wakefield with Larry Cassidy riding. He won well at Toowoomba first up and does love this track. A month between runs and a recent trial could see him race well again.

Renouf (15) is trained on the track and could be value down in the weights.

Sea Raider (4) is a roughie at around $61 that normally goes well fresh.

Selections:

2 – Chaillot
1 – Tumbler Ridge
5 – Roman Aureus
15 – Renouf
Rough chance – (4) Sea Raider

Race 9

A few early scratchings here.

Fastconi (9) is trained by Chris Waller Racing – resumed with a win here at a midweek meeting. The gelding will go well again – he really prefers firm tracks. Jimmy Orman will retain the ride.

Perseids (5) is trained on the track by Natalie McCall and will be ridden by the inform Nikita Beriman (a winning double last weekend). He is drawn well – just concerned with the 1200 metres – I think he really is best up to 1100 metres – happy to be proven wrong.

Five Oxford (7) has been out of sorts since resuming at Doomben with a solid win. He is trained by Kevin Kemp and will be ridden by Taylor Marshall – hold the phone – he is owned by Brisbane’s leading bookmaker (I get plenty of cash out of his bag) – Con Searle. Maybe the owner will load up on him this weekend at the super odds of $31.

Charge on (14) is a dual acceptor from the Adam Campton yards on the Gold Coast. Looks well placed in this race and the stable has a super strike rate – keep safe.

Selections:

9 – Fastconi
5 – Perseids
7 – Five Oxford
14 – Charge On
Rough chance – (13) Kudu

Ryan Maloney, Kyle Wilson-Taylor, Ben Thompson, and Jimmy Orman all have fair chances. I think that if they retain their current rides Jimmy Orman should get the chocolates.

WINNO V FLEMO

The battle continues this with WINNO and FLEMO. FLEMO won last Saturday – we tipped 5 winners – 5 trifectas and four first fours – some solid form! He is on his home turf this weekend – I am sure he will be on fire! Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
