He’s back!
Top British jockey Tom Marquand will ride in Australia for the next ten weeks, kicking off at Randwick on Saturday.
It is a safe bet that Marquand will once again make his presence felt during his time here as he has done many times before ... having already put a dozen ‘down under’ stakes winners behind his name in previous visits.
"He is a little bit light in terms of the number of rides this weekend because a lot of the horses racing at Randwick on Saturday are starting their campaigns and trainers are committed to using jockeys that have been riding their trials," Shaun Flaherty, Marquand's Australian agent, told Racing.com.
According to Racing.com, Marquand has nevertheless picked up four rides on Saturday, two of them coming in Black Type races ... one for Godolphin (Zulfiqar in the Listed Lonhro Plate) and one for John O’Shea (Zou Tiger in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes).
Marquand will also ride for trainers Mitch Beer (Hardware Lane in a BM 78 Handicap) and Paul Messara (Lightfoot in the Highway).
Marquand returns to Australia having landed more than one hundred victories in each of the last five years. Since finishing joint second in the British Jockey’s championship (with his wife Holly Doyle) ... that season ended on October 15 ... Marquand has completed a two month riding contract in Japan.
His greatest successes to date in Australia are his three Group 1 wins ... all aboard the William Haggis trained Addeybb.
