MOST DAZZLING KEEPING UP A HEALTHY STRIKE-RATE

By Graham Potter | Saturday, February 11, 2023

The relatively lightly raced four-year-old gelding Most Dazzling is now a four-time winner from only twelve starts after taking out a BM70 Handicap over 1300m at Toowoomba on February 11.

The Tony and Maddysen Sears trained runner won third-up after gradually building up to race winning fitness following two unplaced runs earlier in this prep.

Punters exhibited a touch of uncertainly as to his readiness, which allowed Most Dazzling to start at generous odds of $5 ... leaving those who did take that leap of faith to benefit handsomely when Most Dazzling did put his best foot forward to secure the race honours.

Most Dazzling, an emergency acceptor, was only ordinarily away from the number one barrier draw, but Georgina Cartwright didn’t panic, instead allowing Most Dazzling to settle into his own rhythm even if that did take him back to sixth place out of the seven runners in the early part, some three lengths off the early leader Eelloh ($8) who had come across to take up the running from the extreme outside barrier.

Most Dazzling held the rail position until the field came to the home turn where Cartwright switched the Sears trained runner out two wide into clear air as they seriously set about hunting down Eelloh, the long-time front-runner.

That was not the easiest of chases as Eeloh kicked on ... and even when Most Dazzling headed Eeloh just inside the 100m mark, Eelloh wasn’t going away, and with Eelloh’s stable companion Vinasta also now threatening to provide nuisance value on the outside of Most Dazzling, Cartwright had to ride Most Dazzling out all the way out to the line to ensure another victory for the Sears team.

This win kept Most Dazzling unbeaten at Toowoomba, and the fact that he has won from 800m to 1350m on both good and soft going suggests that several options will be open to him moving forward.
Most Dazzling’s bank balance now stands at a very healthy $83 565.

Earlier in the day, the Tony and Maddysen Sears trained Top Fun had finished third in a QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap over 1110m at Doomben.

Top Fun, who was having his third career start after winning his Maiden at Ipswich in his previous start, finished just 1.71 lengths behind the race winner, the Bjorn Baker trained debutant Rupert’s House.

That was a good enough run in its own right, but the fact that Rupert’s House looks like he could be a good horse in the making, made Top Fun’s result even better.

In the very next race, Eleuthera also did the stable proud, when finishing third behind Ashgrove in a No Metro Wins Handicap over 2000m.

Eleuthera had finished second at the same venue over 2060m in a BM68 Handicap in her previous start, so she is continuing to pay her way nicely enough with prize-money figure now standing at $130 445.
